Athletes of the Week - Courtney Summers ('10) and Duncan Sullivan ('09)
5/19/2008
Varsity Girls' Lacrosse has found themselves in a number of tight games this year, however, this was not the case last week when the Hornets crushed Vermont Academy 15-6 behind Courtney's three goals, and more importantly, four assists. It was her best match of the season, as she played wonderful defense in the offensive end, caught the ball on the move, and had some lovely passes. The Girls' Varsity Lax team looks to finish their season with a win against KUA on Wednesday in the season finale.
On the hard-courts, the Varsity Boys' Tennis team has struggled through recent injuries to post a 4-5 record heading into the Lakes Region Championship over the weekend. Last week, junior Duncan Sullivan played up a spot on the team's ladder due to injuries and was able to pull out a three set win in dramatic fashion. All three sets went to tie-breaks and Duncan was able to fight off multiple match points to capture the individual victory, as did Thomas Jennings ('10) who was playing at the #2 spot instead of his usual #4, both helping to propel the team to a 5-4 win over Tilton School. Great effort Duncan and Thomas!

Athletes of the Week - Danny Allen ('08), Chris McArthur ('08), and Spencer Wood ('09) - Varsity Baseball
5/15/2008
Proctor's Varsity Baseball team has faced extremely difficult competition over the past two weeks of play. They have fought admirably and provided themselves with an opportunity to win each of those games, but the ball has simply not bounced their way. Despite three straight losses, the play of the team's tri-captains, seniors Danny Allen and Chris McArthur and junior Spencer Wood, has been outstanding.
Allen has hit 7 for 11 (.636) with 2 doubles and 3 RBI in the past three outings. MacArthur has gone 9 for 13 (.692) with 3 doubles, 2 stolen bases, and 5 RBI. Wood has batted 6 for 11 (.545) with 1 triple, 2 doubles, and 4 RBI. Hopefully over the final week of competition, the team's efforts will be rewarded with a few well-deserved victories.
Athletes of the Week - Andrew Osarczuk ('10) and Geordie Sousa ('08) - Varsity Cycling
5/9/2008
Andrew Osarczuk and Geordie Sousa repeated their success at the Exeter Team Time Trial last week. Similar to the Andover TTT, at the Exeter TTT teams enter groups of two and they race a designated number of laps. The pair who completes their laps in the shortest amount of time wins. The difference in the two races is the course. Andover is on wide-open roads around their campus with high-speed corners, whereas Exeter's course is a very technical race with many hard-to- navigate corners, and on race day it was raining. Andrew and Geordie were excited to try and match their race at the last TTT. After a near panic of almost missing their start, the two started off cool and calm. Both are alpine ski racers and have no problem taking chances, to the point their coach was worried they might go for it too much. For Geordie this was his third time at this race and a second time racing for Andrew. After the start, the pair set about to the business of chasing down other teams. It became evident that these two were on a mission. For two laps the Hornets had a difficult time getting around a pair from Holderness and Gould, but once they did Andrew and Geordie distanced themselves even more. In the end, this Proctor pair was the only grouping to break the sub 19-minute mark and thus win the race, for their second two person Team Time Trial win of the year.

Andrew Osarczuk ('10) and Tuckerman Ferris ('10)
5/1/2008
Andrew Osarczuk and Tuckerman Ferris - Cycling
At the KUA points race held at the Claremont speedway, Andrew and Tuckerman successfully worked as a team to secure not only a individual win for Andrew, but a team victory in the Boys' B race for Proctor's Varsity Cycling Team. The race started off with a bang for the Hornets on the first points sprint when 1st, 2nd, and 3rd went to Andrew Osarczuk, Geordie Sousa, and Tuckerman Ferris. When the bell rang again for the next point sprint it was Andrew and Tuckerman again in the top three. Disaster almost struck, however, when on lap 18 of 30 a solo Stratton Mountain School rider nearly broke away from the pack. Had that rider gotten clear of the group and won the next 3 points laps he would have garnered enough points to beat Andrew and win the race. Through Tuckerman's efforts and smart riding, he was able to pull back the Stratton Mountain rider, thus saving the race for his teammate. Two more times over the final eleven laps, Tuckerman dashed the dreams of would-be points getters by marking them and not allowing them to get clear of the group. Tuckerman's selfless efforts combined with Andrew's sprinting ability impressed all those that were watching. Congratulations, Andrew and Tuckerman!

Athletes of the Week - Wilson Land ('08) and Kayla Johnson ('08)
4/24/2008
Wilson Land ('08) - Varsity Golf
Wilson is playing the best golf of his four year Proctor career. He is focused and hitting it pure. On Wednesday, Wilson defeated the #1 player from Phillips Andover to improve to 3-0 on the season. His leadership and outstanding play have been key for the Hornets thus far in the season, and he will continue to set the pace for the entire squad as the season continues. Congratulations, Wilson!
Kayla Johnson ('08) - Varsity Girls' Tennis
Kayla has emerged as a leader on the courts for the Varsity Girls' Tennis team this spring. Coach Whitey Joslin nominated her for Athlete of the Week honors after she won her last two matches at the #4 and #3 spots. In her match last Saturday, Kayla left little question as she recorded a straight set win, 6-0, 6-0. On Wednesday, Kayla won in a hotly contested match against Brewster in a third set tie-break. The girls travel to nearby New Hampton School on Saturday.

Athletes of the Week: Charley Stern ('09), Oliver Munsill ('10), and Cameron Webster ('09)
4/18/2008
CHARLEY STERN ('09) – BOYS' VARSITY TENNIS
As the boys' varsity tennis team took to the courts on Wednesday, coach Ted Mastin surveyed his squad and felt he had a good grasp on who was going to produce for him this season. Coach Mastin was pleasantly surprised, however, with newcomer Charley Stern. In Mastin's words: "Coming out of nowhere and with little tennis training, Charley is a rarity. Playing #5, he relied on grit, energy, and athleticism to beat a strong Holderness player who had obviously had much training. He did so in dramatic fashion, losing the first set 6-4, then winning the second 6-3 setting up a tie-break. After being down 4-1 in the breaker, Charley mounted a comeback and pulled out a 7-5 to help the team to a win over rival Holderness School.
OLIVER MUNSILL ('10) and CAMERON WEBSTER ('09) – WHITEWATER KAYAKING
Cameron Webster and Oliver Munsill both qualified for a spot in the Junior Olympics in Wausa, Wisconsin this July at the Farmington River race last Sunday in Burlington, Connecticut. Both Munsill and Webster are veterans of the kayaking program here at Proctor, and will look to continue to develop along with their teammates under new coach Corby Leith. Congratulations to Oliver and Cam for terrific performances and good luck this summer!

Athletes of the Week: Will Humphrey and Britt Dawber
3/1/2008
This week's athletes of the week are awarded to this winter's Marvin Award winners, presented to a male and female student who have significantly impacted their sport during their first year at Proctor.
BRITTANY DAWBER
From the first day we hit the ice she has always given 110%. Her attitude is outstanding and she always goes above and beyond what we ask of her. She leads by example and helps to set the tone of our practices and games. We have watched her shut down some of the best forwards in our league, not only because of her ability, but also because of her determination and work ethic. Brittany is not the type of player who focuses on individual statistics/points – to her the most important thing is that the team is successful.
WILL HUMPHREY
Will is currently ranked #1 in his age group for the entire state of New Hampshire. He suffered a severe broken arm last season, limiting his ability to accrue points and rankings to help seed him ahead of his peers for the ‘07-‘08 season. Returning in fine form this winter, Will not only won the New Hampshire JII Slalom State Championships, but ranked 1st overall for JII's in the NH championships. Along with his current JII rankings he has worked his way up to the 5th position in the Macomber Cup standings in a field of mostly college athletes. With a first place ranking among the J2s in Macomber standings, Will earned an invitation the Eastern JII Olympics where he won the Super G and was third overall for the east in combined results from four events. Given that he started the season behind his peers, Will’s achievements this season have been superb.

Athletes of the Week - Ebby Gerry '09 and Britt Dawber '09
2/17/2008
Junior Goaltender Ebby Gerry played an exceptional game between the pipes for the Boys' Varsity Hockey team on Saturday as the Hornets faced the rival Huskies from New Hampton School. Young Elbridge turned aside 23 of 25 attempts with several of them being of the stellar variety. Ebby has been solid in all of his starts this season and has shown tremendous improvement in his play. His commitment to getting better each day has paid dividends, and his effort and attitude serves as a fine example to all who compete. Way to go Ebby!
The Girls' Varsity Hockey team recognizes junior defenseman Britt Dawber for her outstanding play over the course of the season. Her consistently strong effort and selfless attitude in practices and in games sets the tone for her teammates, and her ability to organize the attack from behind her own net has become an irreplaceable asset to the team. After going 2-1-1 on the week, the girls were able to push their record to 15-5-1 on the year, and will await a post-season bid after this week's final regular season games.

Athlete of the Week - Chubbs Bryson '10
1/31/2008
Sophomore Charles "Chubbs" Bryson (Charlestown, MA) pumped in four goals in the JV Boys' Hockey convincing 5-1 win over Brewster Academy last week. After a difficult start to the season, the victory over Brewster marked the third win in the last five games for the Hornets, pushing their record to 4-7-1 on the year. The Hornets look to continue their winning ways as they play host to Kimball Union Academy on Saturday February 2nd at 2:00 pm.
Athlete of the Week - Hunter Fifield
1/21/2008
Junior Hunter Fifield led the Boys' Junior Varsity Basketball team to back-to-back wins over the weekend, boosting the team's record to 5-3 on the year. Fifield scored 30 points and tallied over 20 rebounds in the two wins against New Hampton School and High Mowing School. His leadership and all-around play helped the Hornets overcome two tough opponents and will continue to look to get his teammates involved as the season progresses. The JV Boys next travel to Vermont Academy on Wednesday January 23rd.
Athlete of the Week - Josh Kershaw and Chelsea Stevens
1/10/2008
Seniors Josh Kershaw (Springfield, NH) and Chelsea Stevens (Monterey, CA) both turned out stellar performances in net in their respective hockey games over the past week. Kershaw turned away 24 shots in the JV Boys' 2-1 win over rival Holderness on Saturday. Coach Phil Goodnow commented on Kershaw's tremendous performance and leadership during the Hornet's first victory of the season, and hopes the JV Boys' can carry their momentum onto the ice Friday night as they host Academie Saint-Louis.
For the Varsity Girls', Chelsea Stevens has provided leadership and consistent play in net over the past two seasons. Her 45 saves under consistent pressure from a talented Brewster team were admirable despite the Hornet's falling short 4-1, on Wednesday. Stevens has also played well in wins over Saint Paul's School (30 saves in 5-1 win), Middlesex, Kents Hill, and Holderness. The Varsity Girls' take the ice Friday night in an important Division 1 match-up against New Hampton School.

Athlete of the Week - Lisa Mullan
12/6/2007
Senior Lisa Mullan has helped the Varsity Girls' Ice Hockey team (3-0) start the 2007-2008 season on a hot streak as she has tallied five goals in the last two games, including a hat trick against Middlesex in the Hornets' 4-1 victory on Wednesday. Her solid leadership skills and consistent work ethic recognized by her coaches during the soccer season has carried over to the ice this winter. Coaches Christina Dotchin and Dougo Houston are pleased with their team's early success and look for the girls to continue to play unselfishly as the season continues. Congratulations, Lisa!
Athletes of the Week:
11/19/2007
SPENCER WOOD
Spencer has emerged as a team leader in his first season on the football squad. Defensively, he leads the team in tackles, tackles for loss, and in caused turnovers. He also has the highest rushing average on the team and is one of the leading scorers on the team. Spencer is an outstanding athlete and leader.
LISA MULLAN
Lisa Mullan hasn't focused on soccer in recent years and yet she made a significant contribution to her team this fall. An attacking forward by nature, she was asked to learn a defensive position that she quickly mastered. Lisa is speedy, rugged, and competitive. Her athletic ability, her work ethic, and her sportsmanship are exemplary. Her ability to apply blunt force trauma to opposing players without ever fouling them played a major role in our success this year. The team loves her spirit.
ANGELICA PASCUAL
Angelica is a new student to Proctor who had never played field hockey, and wasn’t sure she really liked the game. But to her credit, she was open-minded and willing to give it a try. She started the season learning the skills on the JV team and it was soon evident that she had both talent and a terrific attitude. She was moved up to the varsity team shortly after the season began, and scored a goal in the first five minutes of her first varsity game. She became a starter on our attack due to her excellent speed and work ethic. She is a very coachable and tenacious athlete who is a great addition to any team. As an athlete, others improve by playing both with and against her.

Athlete of the Week - Chris Ruez
11/12/2007
On September 26th, the last thing from Chris Ruez's mind was playing football after the junior receiver/tailback suffered a serious hand injury in an off-the-field accident that appeared to end his season. However, after an extensive surgery, a bone graft, and some quick healing, Ruez shocked everybody by returning to the field just four weeks after his injury. His presence was felt this past Saturday as he hauled in four catches for 74 yards (2 TD's) and ran the ball five times for 72 yards (1 TD) on offense while intercepting a key Holderness pass on defense. Chris' performance powered the Hornets to a solid 35-26 victory over rival Holderness in the season finale. Congratulations, Chris and all the Proctor athletes, on a great fall season!
Athlete of the Week - Kali Stevens
11/4/2007
Freshman tri-captain Kali Stevens has been an instant impact player on the Girls' Junior Varsity Soccer team as she has helped lead her team to a 6-3-2 record this fall. Through consistent midfield play and quiet leadership, Kali has inspired her teammates and coaches throughout the season and has earned this week's nomination. It is not often that a freshman is able to impact a team and assert confident leadership the way Kali has this fall. Congratulations, Kali!
Athlete of the Week - Taylor Beasley
10/5/2007
Senior quarterback Taylor Beasely completed 9-14 passes for 139 yards (3 TD) and rushed five times for 24 yards (1 TD) in the Hornets' convincing 36-14 victory over Kents Hill School (ME) this past Saturday. Beasley has now thrown five touchdowns in two games this season without an interception, and looks to lead the Varsity Football team against visiting rival Tilton School on October 6th at 2:30 pm.
Athlete of the Week - Nikki Fernandez
9/28/2007
Junior Nikki Fernandez punched in two goals en route to the Hornets third consecutive Varsity Field Hockey victory and first win over rival, Holderness School, in recent years. Fernandez is an excellent midfielder with strong ball control skills and speed. She has a strong awareness of her teammates and vision on the field. She executed with precision a penalty corner hit for the team's first goal and had a beautiful second goal from the field. Varsity Field Hockey is off to a great start this year behind solid team play and tremendous individual efforts over the first two weeks of the season. Junior Melanie Speers has knocked in four goals in the first three matches to add to the offensive punch and stellar all-around defensive play has allowed just one goal to opponents on the young season.
Congratulations to a great start for the Field Hockey team!
Athlete of the Week - Britt Plante
9/20/2007
This season's first Athlete of the Week honors go to senior runner Britt Plante who won the girls' cross country race Wednesday at Cardigan Mountain School. She was trailing by a bit the whole race, but reeled the leader in on the final big hill and then passed her on a long downhill shortly before the finish. Britt then picked it up a notch to put her away with a great kick that made her finish look like she had been running along in the lead the entire time. Britt leads a strong core of returning runners for the cross country team this fall and her coaches are excited about the team's potential behind her leadership.

Athletes of the Week: Harris Williams and Annie Wagner
5/23/2007
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK:
Harris Williams '10 (Lynn, MA) Annie Wagner '09 (Berwick, ME)
Harris Williams ended his freshman campaign on the JV Baseball team with an unbelievable display of hitting as he blasted two homeruns deep to straight away center. These towering shots cleared the 360-foot fence by twenty feet. Harris added a deep single to right center as well as he collected five RBI's on the day, went 3-4 and provided huge excitement despite the team's loss to Hanover High School. The future looks good for Proctor baseball!
On the JV Lacrosse field, sophomore Annie Wagner has led her team on and off the field all season. Annie provides leadership and stability to the defense as she confidently and capably directs her teammates to the right position at the right time. Annie has eagerly covered the opposition's best player all season and will look to impact the varsity program in the future.
Athletes of the Week: Dan Pendleton and Tyler Swertfager
5/15/2007
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Daniel Pendleton '07
Tyler Swertfager '09
Despite this being his first season as a competitive kayaker, Daniel Pendleton (Auburn, WA) has stunned veteran coach, Bert Hinkley, with his enthusiasm and hard work over the course of the season. Daniel has braved the icy waters of the Blackwater River all spring and his efforts in practice have paid off as he finished second, only to the New Hampton coach, in last weekend's Fiddlehead Slalom in Montpelier, VT.
The JV Boys' Lacrosse team has been led all season by sophomore co-captain, Tyler Swertfager (Chappaqua, NY) as he has dominated the defensive third with hard slides and crushing hits. Tyler's leadership in the backfield has anchored the defense throughout the year and helped his teammates improve significantly. Coach Peter Southworth also comments that Tyler has an uncanny ability to turn the ball up field with his long pole and set up his teammates with solid passes and the occasional shot from the perimeter (scoring two goals this season).
Congratulations to both Daniel and Tyler and thank you for your hard work.

Athletes of the Week: Kinley Viandier and Katie Lehman
5/6/2007
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK:
Kinley Viadier '07 (Andover, NH)
Katie Lehman '10 (Webster, NH)
Senior Kinley Viandier has improved significantly after playing just two years of competitive tennis at Proctor Academy and has moved up to the #2 singles and #1 doubles spot for the boys' varsity tennis team. Coach Ted Mastin has seen flashes of brilliance from the Andover native in his two recent matches despite losing in a singles tie-breaker to a talented KUA player and then putting forth a valiant effort against a superior Holderness squad. Mastin wants to recognize Viandier for his hardwork and dedication improving each day in practice and during matches.
On the lacrosse field, only one team remains undefeated and freshman Katie Lehman deserves some of the credit for her JV Lax team's success. While playing the point on defense, Katie's hustle and determination have proven to be infectious as she directs her teammates in the defensive third and sets an example for all to follow by playing full throttle throughout the game. She will no doubt be a force at the varsity level in years to come.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Dennnis Silvio 4/30/2007
4/30/2007
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: 4/30/07
Dennis Silvio '08 (Beverly, MA)
Junior Dennis Silvio has sparked the Varsity Baseball team to a 2-1 start this spring with dominant pitching performances in both of his outings. On Saturday versus Brewster Academy, Silvio went 6 innings, allowing just 2 hits with no earned runs, while recording 8 strikeouts. On the season, he has dominated opponents in route to his two wins tallying 15 strikeouts in 10 innings of work without yielding an earned run. Varsity Baseball looks to continue their strong start as they travel to Vermont Academy on Wednesday May 2nd.
Will Brown and Sayre Limburg: Athlete of the Week
4/25/2007
Senior attackman, Will Brown has contributed significantly to Boys' Varsity Lacrosse's strong start to the season. Scoring four goals in the opener, a 16-7 win over Vermont Academy, and three goals in Saturday's tough 10-14 loss to perennial power, Kimball Union, Will has been key to the teams' early success this season.
On the tennis courts, Freshman Sayre Limburg has brought a spark to the Girls' Varsity squad as she won both her singles matches, and her doubles match, at #1 to carry PA to a season-opening 6-3 win over KUA in her first varsity tennis match of her career.
SPRING SPORTS AOW COMING SOON!
3/24/2007
Following a winter season full of remarkable performances by individuals in every sport, the spring season should bring more of the same. Starting after the first week of competitions, Athlete of the Week honors will resume. Stay tuned for updates.
Marvin Award Winners
2/28/2007
The Charles Marvin Award is given each term to a boy and girl who are new to Proctor Academy for their leadership, sportsmanship, and ability. This winter Chelsea Stevens '08 (Monterey, CA) and Eric Peterson '07 (Newton, NH) were recipients of the Marvin Award. These awards were presented at the Winter Term Athletic Assembly and their coaches' remarks follow.
"Chelsea has done a great job in net this season. She helped us win some big games including the ones against Holderness, Hebron, and Middlesex. She is always focused, ready to work hard, and has demonstrated solid leadership skills. Congratulations, Chelsea!" ~ Christina Dotchin
"Eric came to Proctor this year with a great deal of leadership experience and quickly established himself as a role model to his teammates by the example he set on and off the ice. Eric takes care of his business quietly and without much ado, and never cares to be the center of attention. Through his efforts he has gained the trust of his teammates and has been counted on to deliver during crunch time. Eric's skill on the ice has allowed him to be a big part of our second half run and he will play a huge role in the team's quest to return to the New England Championships in March. Great job, Eric!" ~ Mike Walsh

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Ethan Okma
2/15/2007
Ethan Okma dominated on the football field this fall as a captain on the Hornets undefeated Evergreen League Champion team and has brought this same tenacity and dedication to the wrestling mat this winter. At the Northern New England Invitational this past weekend, Ethan placed 3rd in a bracket of 16 in the 285-pound weight class, despite entering the competition unseeded. He went 5-1 on the day with all of his wins coming by way of pin and helped to lead the Grapplin’ Hornets to one of their highest point totals in recent history at a NNE tournament. Ethan has overcome injury and sickness this winter, but has persevered and is anxious to lead his team to a strong finish.
Athletes of the Week: Bridget Gilroy and Nick Fairall
2/8/2007
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK:
Bridget Gilroy '09 Nick Fairall '07 Bridget Gilroy (Hopkinton, NH) wowed spectators and competitors alike on Saturday as she placed second in a Macomber Cup race at Pat's Peak. Her time was behind only a Plymouth State University senior, despite being the youngest competitor in the top ten by more than a year. Bridget's performance is the first top ten Macomber Cup finish for a Proctor racer this year. In ski jumping, Nick Fairall (Andover, NH) has become well acquainted with success, and had another outstanding meet over the weekend in Lake Placid. With a jump of 95 meters, Nick won the regional competition and is ready for the Junior World Championships this coming week in Italy.
Athlete of the Week - Neil Ruffini and Vika Mykolenko
1/31/2007
Vika Mykolenko scored two of the varsity girls' four goals (and got an assist) for a big win against Hebron last Saturday, scored one of the two goals against Kents Hill this past weekend, and tallied two assists against Concord High on Wednesday. Vika is a model leader for the Hornets and sets the tone on the ice each and every game.
On the boys' side, Neil Ruffini has been on fire during the past two weeks skating for the Hornets boys' varsity hockey team. He collected back to back hat tricks in victories vs. Kents Hill and Pingree, pumped in a single at Holderness and tallied two goals against Vermont Academy. Neil has lead the team on and off the ice and is one of the main reasons that the Hornets are poised to make their run at a New England title. Great work Neil!
Athlete of the Week - Haley Creed
1/23/2007
Over the past week, the Varsity Alpine Ski Team has experienced noteable success. Senior Haley Creed stood out from the rest of the competition last Wednesday as she finished with the best time among all skiiers, both male and female. Her combined time was nearly two seconds ahead of anyone else in the field at the end of the day, an astonishing feat. This performance has helped her to earn Athlete of the Week honors.
Congratulations Haley and best of luck as the season continues.
Athlete of the Week - Rob Simpson
1/12/2007
Junior goaltender Rob Simpson has had a stellar week in net for the Varsity Boys' Hockey team turning in two outstanding performances. His first was a 28 save effort vs. Lakes Region rival Holderness, helping the team cruise to a 7-4 victory. In his next outing Simpson again was exceptional turning aside 24 bids by pesky Berwick Academy and helping to solidify a 6-3 win for the Green Bees. Congratulations Rob, your hard work and dedication has paid off!
Athlete of the week: Brit Plante '08
11/5/2006
Britt Plante is awarded athlete of the week for her performance in the Lake's Region Championship Race. It was a very muddy course with a couple of big hills and all teams were ready and hungry for competition. Britt went out hard and stayed close to the leaders. I didn't get to see her again until she came out of the woods with less than 1/2 mile to go. She was in 4th place at that time and could have held on to finish respectably in 4th. The 3rd place girl had a comfortable lead, but Britt responded to the crowd of spectators and went after her. She slowly reeled her in and was right on her heels as they hit the final short steep hill 40 meters from the finish. Britt charged up the hill and pulled even with the other girl and then slightly ahead. They hit the flat and Britt pulled away to take third place in the league! It was the best finish seen for the day!
Athlete of the Week: Sayre Limburg
10/23/2006
Sayre has earned athlete of the week on the girls JV Soccer team. Sayre is a leading member of an energetic and positive group of girls. Sayre readily accepts a challenge with a smile, will play anywhere the team needs her and has been nicknamed the "energizer bunny" for her never ending pursuit of the ball in a game or practice. In one drill when indian sprints were to be completed, Sayre said "I love these". An athlete with such a positive attitude and energy is contagious on a team and Sayre has lead the way with the JV girls soccer team.
Athlete of the Week: Carlos Bryant
10/5/2006
Carlos had an outstanding game vs. Hebron Academy to help Proctor snap Hebron's 12 game Evergreen League win streak. Carlos had several tackles and his physical play helped set the tone for the hard hitting Hornets all day. Carlos also broke up two long pass attempts, recovered a fumble that lead to the game winning points, and intercepted a pass that sealed the victory.

Athletes of the Week: Amy Olwell 08 and Charlotte Dwight 07
5/20/2006
Amy Olwell 08, and Charlotte Dwight 07 teamed up on Wednesday for a huge 9-7 doubles win at KUA. As members of the girls JV tennis team, both players have made remarkable improvement throughout the course of the season, having entered the program this spring with little experience on the courts.
Amy and Charlotte, teamed up for the first time in a competitive doubles match, quickly found themselves at a 1-5 deficit against a tough KUA opponent. Using skill and tenacity, they fought back to a7-7 tie, Amy's speed on the baseline and Carly's strength at the net suddenly overwhelming their opponent. The two then went on to break the opponent's serve in the 8'th, and convincingly won the match with Amy serving up the9th.
Congratulation's to Amy and Charlotte for a great match and season, successfully combining fun and talent to help their team finish strong.
Athlete of the Week: Chi Chi Ryan ‘07
4/28/2006
Chi Chi Ryan earned Athlete of the Week for her gutsy performance in her singles match against KUA. Combined with a great doubles match with Laura LeBourdais for the win. Chi Chi played “in the zone” and beat a more skilled player with sheer determination and intensity of play. She has been working hard in practice and really giving tennis an enormous effort. Her positive, upbeat attitude is an inspiration for the whole team.
4/20/2006
Two of the last four matches have been highly competitive ones for the number 2 varsity tennis spot. Zach has had two remarkably difficult matches. Both opponents, a German player named Felix from Dublin and a player named Lee from Holderness, were highly accomplished. Both matches ended in grueling tie-breakers. Zach rose to the occasion and won both matches. If the true measure of a person/player is in how they perform during moments of great import/stress, then Zach is well on his way to great success.
Zach's personal record: 3-1
Team record: 2-2

For many Proctor athletes, March is a time to take a break. Spring break heralds a mass migration to warm weather, rest and fun with friends. Freshman John Arnold spent his spring break differently than many of his peers. John is an Eastern skier and as a second year J3 at the top of his game, John had a very busy March. Following an already full season with training camps in France and California with Proctor, a series of US Ski Team development camps from Maine to Park City, Utah and divisional qualifying races all over NH, John began spring break training for Junior Olympics. A solid slalom performance at JOs earned John a spot on the podium and an invitation to Canadian K2 (J3) Nationals. John along with nine other JO podium winners (5 girls and 5 boys) went to represent the US Ski Team against the best junior athletes in all of Canada. At the end of five days of racing, John got to get up on the podium one last time for the season with a third place in the final component of the meet – the skills event. What a wonderful, experience rich winter this young man has had. Congratulations on all of your success this winter John!

Athlete of the Week: Spencer Harkins '09
2/27/2006
When the season began, we weren’t sure what to make of Spencer Harkins. The easy-going jokester looked more the part of a freestyle skier than an alpine racer. Daily reminders to pull up his baggy ski pants (which any racer knows isn’t fast) and wear his GS suit for training became the opening line of every coaching session. Then, sometime in December, everything changed. Spencer emerged as a focused and hardworking athlete who was not only a wonderful skier, but a good teammate as well. In early January, Spencer started racing to his potential. It wasn’t long before he realized that he was a contender for a spot on the NH Junior Olympic team. Then, during the final qualifier for JOs, disappointment struck… Spencer fell in the second run of the slalom. Since Spencer’s strength is slalom over giant slalom, this fall dashed his hopes for a spot on the JO team. At that point, Spencer had a choice: shrug his shoulders and chalk it up to an unlucky year – or put his game face on and try to qualify for JOs the circuitous way. Spencer chose the latter.
This weekend, Spencer traveled to Attitash for NH J3 Finals. In two solid days of competition, Spencer combined a second place finish in the GS with a decisive win in the SL for the overall first place at NH J3 Finals. The win earned him a berth to J3 Regional Finals and a second shot at JOs. Way to go Spencer!

Sean Kaulbach last Thursday took third place at the USASA Slopestyle. This is the most competitive age group and Sean really stepped up to prove that he could compete. He threw a "corked out 720" in front of the Judges to clinch third place.
Athlete of the Week: Nick Fairall '07
1/19/2006
Twenty-six athletes, including 13 cross country skiers, five nordic combined athletes, five jumpers and three women jumpers, have been named to represent the U.S. Ski Team at the Junior World Championships later this month. The announcement, made by U.S. Nordic Director Luke Bodensteiner, included 16 year old Proctor ski jumper Nick Fairall. Congratulations Nick!
Athlete of the Week: Josh Rosenholtz '07
1/1/2006
Jr Goaltender Josh Rosenholtz was nothing short of spectacular in the first half of the winter season. Rosie has made several sure goal saves that have left the attacking forwards reaching for the sky in false jubilation. Josh backboned the Hornet's efforts in both the St. Sebastians and BBN Holiday tournaments, turning aside an average of 30 shots a game. The old adage of "your only as good as your goaltender" certainly rings true on the Proctor campus these days as Rosenholtz has been a major factor in the recent success of the young Hornet squad thus far. Congratulations Rosie.
Athlete of the Week: Sara Paulshock ’07
12/9/2005
Varsity Girls Hockey forward Sara Paulshock ’07 is our athlete of the week. She scored two of the three goals in the season opening game against Holderness (final score: 3-1) and had 2 assists in the game against Vermont Academy (5-0). She has a lot of confidence with the puck and uses her ability to move the puck well in the offensive zone. Coach Christina Dotchin writes “I am very pleased with the work ethic that Sara displayed at all of our practices am excited to get the season off to such a good start.”
Athlete of the Week: Jerome Dyson '06
11/5/2005
Jerome Dyson turned in an outstanding performance against arch rival Holderness School. Jerome sprained his ankle the previous week against Kimball Union and was on crutches until Thursday. Jerome had limited practice on Friday and Saturday, setting the stage for an unforgettable performance. On the second play of the game, Jerome raced 64 yards for the first score. On the subsequent drive by Holderness, Jerome hit the Bulls QB while he was releasing the ball which enabled Chris Leach to step in front of the pass for an interception. With 13 seconds left in the first half, Jerome signaled to QB Tommy Moyon that there was a seam in the defense and Tommy changed the play, resulting in a 3 yard scoring pass. Holderness cut the score to 21-6 in the third quarter and on the kickoff Moyon lateraled to Jerome and he returned the toss for a 70 yard touchdown. Dyson's fourth TD was on a 3 yard run to extend the Proctor lead to 33-6. Jerome's competitive spirit is an inspiration to his teammates. Jerome followed up his performance by thanking the Proctor community in assembly the day after the game for their support and by urging the school to keep the rivalry alive. Jerome is a great athlete and a team leader.

Athlete of the Week: Linsley Truesdale '09
10/22/2005
Linsley Truesdale has been a driving force behind the offense of Proctor's JV Girls Soccer Team. Linsley has a powerful shot and knows when to use it and when to set a team mate up for a goal. She has scored 7 of the team's 12 goal's to date and has contributed a great deal to the team's 5-2-1 record. Now that we are playing teams for a second time Linsley is closely marked and working harder than ever to find some space. Currently she is doing a great job sending balls across the net for other's to tap in. During practice Linsley is very willing to try new tactics and help others with their skills.
Athlete of the Week: Molly Weeden '07
9/30/2005
This week the award goes to varsity field hockey player Molly Weeden.Coach Kathy
Noble writes: "Molly has been a key contributor with an excellent work ethic for the team. In our first game against Kents Hill, Molly had a strong presence on the offensive end of the field and scored a goal in the team's 5-1 win. In last Saturday's game, Molly scored the team's only goal in a 2-1 loss to New Hampton. In the pressure situation of taking a penalty stroke, Molly was poised and executed the stroke flawlessly." Congratulations Molly!

Sophomore golf sensation Mack Duke put an exclamation point on a fantastic season by blowing away the field at Lakes Region Golf Championship held at Hanover Country Club. Duke finished the year with a record of 7-0 in regular season play and during his run he often left his opponents stunned at his machine like precision and accuracy on the course. At Hanover, in an eighteen-hole stroke play format, Mack shot 75 with the next closest competitor coming in an 81. Most importantly he backboned a 2nd place team finish that is most impressive coming from a varsity program that is only in its second year of competition. Behind Duke's dominance, the Hornet's future on the links is very bright and should be right back in the hunt next spring. Great work Mack!

This week’s Athlete of the Week is paddler Sean Kaulbach. Sean has shown more growth in one season than any paddler in the history of the competitive Proctor Kayak Team. In the final race of the year, Kaulbach place 2nd in the K-1 Junior class (males between 15 and 19 years old). The race was won by PA paddler John Wright, and while Proctor students have often placed second in the class at the Covered Bridge Slalom in West Cornwall, CT, never has a athlete who started paddling in March of the same year accomplished such a result. The team arrived at the race site on Saturday afternoon and proceeded to walk the course and memorize the placement of the gates on the river. The rest of the afternoon was spent practicing the moves and learning the currents. On Sunday Sean and other juniors John Wright, Nick Pintauro and John Ludlow spent the morning as a gate judge officials scoring the morning session in which coach Bert Hinkley and senior Westy Howland raced. In the afternoon they had their chance on the course. As Hinkely and Howland watched from the cockpits of their double canoe at the bottom of the course it was clear that Kaulbach was having a good run. He was navigating the currents and setting up the angles of approach to the next gate with a precision that was not that of the average beginner. In fact, because John Wright had been what is called "dirty", and had touched 3 gates and incurred 6 penalty seconds added to his time, Kaulbach was actually leading after the first run. Beginner's luck? Maybe, but remember the river is not very forgiving. Mistakes get magnified as the playing field moves along without concern for the struggling young paddlers. Experience and conditioning prevailed in run two and John Wright won the race. But Sean Kaulbach placed a close second and other spectator/gate judges/competitors all exclaimed their surprise when they learned this was his rookie season. It is for his coachability, his focused approach to his racing and his natural ability that Sean is clearly a worthy Athlete of the Week.

This week's Athlete of the Week is awarded to cyclist Matt Williams. In a stunning display of strength, courage, and athleticism, Matt won his third bike race in a row on Wednesday. An impressive feat in itself, not only did Matt win, but he lapped the rest of the field! Racing in the A group on a quarter mile race track in Claremont, New Hampshire, the race is set up as a 40 lap point race. This means that the racers sprint every 5th lap for points. Matt counter attacked as the other racers were slowing down from their first sprint. Matt’s attack from the inside of the first corner immediately opened a large gap. Catching the rest of the racers off guard. No one was able to respond quickly enough to rally Matt’s attack. After the race Matt graciously accepted the compliments and respect from both his teammates and coaches and his competitors and their coaches. It was a classy conclusion to an incredible day.

Mike Bourque pitched a 1 hit shut out with 8 strikeouts as the Proctor Team beat Holderness 11-0. It was yet another stellar pitching job by Mike and certainly earns him the title of Athlete of the Week. To compliment Mike's superb pitching, the bats came alive for the Hornets as Devin Pyne hit a towering home run in the top of the second inning. Josh Gilbert and Joe Fitzpatrick followed with back-to-back doubles. Jay Anctil was on base 4 out of 4 at bats and scored 3 runs. Alex Felton had 2 hits in addition to a great suicide squeeze bunt. The Hornets had 13 hits on the day including a 6 hit 4th inning in which they scored 5 runs. The team worked very hard on defense playing extremely well in the field. All in all a great day for Hornet's baseball, led by the pitching of Mike Borque.
Athlete of the Week: Billy Adams '07
4/22/2005
This week’s Athlete of the Week is awarded to golfer Billy Adams. Billy fired a course low of 41 on Wednesday to lead the Hornets to a tie with Vermont Academy. The sophomore has improved his skills over the past year by dedicating himself to improving each time he plays. His work ethic is outstanding and he clearly sets an example for all of his teammates on a daily basis. Proctor Golf is gaining momentum and becoming a squad to be reckoned with in the Lakes Region and Billy Adams is a main reason for this achievement. The team hopes to build on their success when they face off against New Hampton today for Family Weekend. Good luck to the team and great work Billy! Keep it up.

The boys’ basketball team (currently ranked second in NEPSAC Class B Basketball) had an impressive week in which the team narrowly lost to nationally ranked Class A power Brewster Academy, defeated Class B rival Tabor Academy and for the first time ever defeated Class A perennial power New Hampton School. Leading the way for the Hornets was Jerome Dyson, who despite being a focus for opponents, has managed to average 31.3 points per game, all the while turning in stellar defensive performances throughout the season.
Jerome poured in 35 points in the loss to Brewster, 31 in the victory over Tabor and 36 in the win over New Hampton. Although scoring points comes easily to Jerome, it is certainly not the only facet of his game. As the team’s point guard he gets the team into offensive sets and rarely misses an open teammate who has a good look at the basket. His performance on the court has garnered attention from schools like UConn, Florida, Miami, Purdue, Notre Dame, Boston College, UNLV, Maryland, Georgetown, West Virginia, Villanova, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Arizona.
While his play on the court, and the caliber of the schools that are showering attention on Jerome are impressive, what stands out about Jerome is his team first mentality. He practices tirelessly, competes to be the best in each drill, encouraging teammates to do the same and readily accepts suggestions from his coaches. Early in the season, following a road trip, Jerome waited until everyone had left the bus and then checked under seats for any trash that may have been left behind. Recently, he was invited to watch UConn play North Carolina but declined, stating he would “rather spend time with his teammates.” Jerome also possesses a rare humility. When asked to select the Most Outstanding Player for the end of season awards, Jerome selected a teammate.

Sean Mann lead the Proctor grapplers with two wins at Saturday's tri-meet in a steamy Worcester Academy wrestling room. His first match - a 53 second pin against an opponent from Marionapolis Prep School - turned out to be just the warm-up Sean needed. Sean went a full 6 minutes in his second bout on the day with a talented Hilltopper foe in front of a boisterous home crowd. Undaunted by the chaos around him, Sean dominated his opponent to an 11-0 win. Sean did not give up a single point to either opponent on the day. He heads into next Saturday's New England Invitational Tournament brimming with confidence.

Sophomore ski jumper Nick Fairall has been an up and comer in the Andover Outing Club for years. In his second year at Proctor Nick has continued to work his way up in the sport of ski jumping. Last weekend, Nick jumped to 120 meters (390 feet) at Lake Placid to firmly establish himself as one of the best junior jumpers in the US. Next week he'll be competing in several meets to try to earn one of three slots on the US Junior World Team going to Finland. We wish Nick the best of luck!

Sophomore eastern skier Taylor Tibbetts is having a wonderful season. It all began in November, when Taylor had the awesome experience of racing in France against an international field of talented national team athletes while at training camp in Tignes. Taylor returned to the US determined to make the most of her first season as a J2 racer and that’s exactly what she has been doing.
An athlete who always expects perfection, Taylor is her own worst critic and constantly strives to improve. Despite being plagued with an inability to finish races in the early part of the season, Taylor’s work ethic never diminished. All of her hard work came to fruition last weekend. With two decisive slalom runs Taylor dominated the field at Saturday’s Tecnica Cup race at Tenney Mountain for a first place finish and the ability to move up to the next tier in NH racing. On Sunday, Taylor faced the older, tougher Macomber Cup field for the first time. Although the perfectionist in her would have liked to be on the podium, Taylor had a very respectable day and earned the lowest point race of her young career. Keep up the good work Taylor. You’re having a wonderful season!

First Year Goaltender Candice Currier has been the backbone of Proctor's Defense since the start of the season. With the poise and skill of an older player, Candice has led with quiet confidence and has played in every game of season so far.
This past week, Candice and Proctor faced Tilton School and St. Thomas Aguinas. Candice allowed only two goals for wins in both games.
Candice shows great promise on and off the ice as a solid, multi-sport student athlete. In Hockey specifically, Candice has already proven her readiness and ability to face high school level play.
Congratulations Candice!

Jr defenseman Devin Pyne has done yeoman's work since joining the Proctor Boys Varsity Hockey team this winter. His physical presence on the blueline evokes a sense of fear in opposing forwards and his booming shot is a threat to score each time it is unleashed. Devin scored his first prep goal last Friday in the Hornets home opener, in a 6-2 trouncing of Brewster. #24 has provided stability and toughness to the team and also has led by example with his work ethic in our daily practice sessions. Great job Devin!
Athlete of the Week receives a $10 gift certificate to Jakes Market. Thank you Jakes for supporting our athletes!

Athlete of the Week: Peter Arnold
10/29/2004
Co-captain of the JV Boys Soccer team, Pete has quietly set the tone for this group of players with his incessant hustle, gritty play, and skill with the ball. Marked closely by opposing teams because of his "Tasmanian Devil" style of play and his slashing runs, Pete anchors the field at center halfback.
He leads the team in shots and has scored two critical goals this season, one a key tying goal and the other a game winning blast on Family Weekend. His touch with the ball is improving and his smart, vocal play raises the level of the players around him. Soccer phenom Freddy Adu is fortunate that Pete spends his other seasons alpine skiing and playing lacrosse.

Click here for a printable fall athletics schedule. It is never easy to be the back up goalie. It requires you to be excited for practice week after week, knowing you may never see the net on game day. It requires an unfailing dedication to improving your skill with the faint hope that “someday” you might get your one shot in goal. Evan Procknow displays that undaunted optimism that every coach looks for. As the backup goalie on the Boys Varsity Soccer team, Evan has yet to see a minute of a game, but his attitude is as positive as ever. Varsity Coach Phil Goodnow says of Evan, “Evan's selfless hard work, fine play and dedication make him an excellent role model for all Proctor athletes.” Congratulations Evan!

Click here for a printable fall athletics schedule.Ninth grader, Brittaney Plante has wowed her coaches in her first year at Proctor. The girls’ cross-country team has proven to be a powerhouse in the Lakes Region, undefeated in four races. Brittaney has been more than a contributor. In her first race she was first in her age group and second overall to teammate, sophomore Louisa Loring. In their second race the two girls put a minute gap on the field in the first three quarters of a mile and raced hard--and alone--to the finish, sprinting into the chute five minutes ahead of the next girl. In her third meet she stunned all of the other Lakes Region teams, breaking the tape in 21:31 for first place and a new course record. This week, despite battling a nasty cold, Brittaney finished just behind Tilton’s top runner for a third place overall. Her finish combined with another win from teammate Louisa Loring clinched the continued undefeated streak for these amazing girls’ team and earned Miss. Plante the title of Athlete of the Week.

Click here for a printable fall athletics schedule.Senior Perry Kleeman claims the honor as athlete of the week. Recently elected co-captain of the Varsity Field Hockey team, Perry’s coaches describe her as “hardworking, dedicated and disciplined”. Recently moved from her usual midfield position, Perry moved up to the forward line and has been dynamite. “Four goals in the past two games, the spark of the offense, score czarina” say her coaches. “Perry never missed a beat after taking a ball to the eye last week and she continues to be a playmaker on the field. She constantly looks for her teammates to feed the ball to share the scoring.” Congratulations Perry. Keep up the excellent work.

Click here for a printable fall athletics schedule.JV Field Hockey’s Ariel Sackett had a great attitude from the start - she’s coachable, works hard, and wants to PLAY! While watching a video she wanted to get right out and start practice saying -" we should try that drill!" "How much more time do we have to practice? I want to play!"
When her coaches asked the team who would like to try playing goalie - she said "sure!". They know that she really wants to play on the field (which she will be able to do) but applaud the fact that she said YES to Goalie anyway - when no one else volunteered.
Since that bold offer, she has been making great progress. She made a number of saves in the game yesterday against Sant Bani and kept her attitude positive even when she was scored against.
She is a Total Team player!

This week’s Athlete of the Week proves that it isn’t always the clutch time goal or the ninth inning homer that makes you shine, sometimes it’s the little things. JV Football coach Nelson Lebo describes Bo Butler as a great team member.
“He is always positive and helpful. The other day we showed up for practice and there were no balls at the field. Bo volunteered to run all the way back to the field house to retrieve them. He helps new players and will even suggest drills that he learned last year on his team, but not in a know-it-all way that makes him uncoachable.”
Bo is a new ninth grader from California. He plays tailback and cornerback.
