The Spring Athletic Season has officially come to a close.  As seniors prepare for the annual senior dinner Friday evening and for walking in commencement ceremonies on Saturday, let's take a brief look back at all this group of young men and women have achieved.  Members of the Class of 2009 have taken part in two undefeated regular seasons for Varsity Football in 2006 and 2008, set school records on the Eastern Ski team, helped the 2009 edition of the Varsity Lacrosse team to its best record since 1994, led the Girls' Varsity Basketball team to a Class C NEPSAC Championship, helped the Boys' Varsity Hockey team win the Lakes Region Championship in 2008, pushed the Boys' Varsity Basketball team back to the NEPSAC tournament in 2009, motivated the Girls' Varsity Soccer team to a 9-1-4 record and a berth in the NEPSAC Class C tournament in 2006, as well as helped the 2008 Varsity Field Hockey team to a berth in the NEPSAC tournament.

While this list of accolades is only a sampling of what this group of young people has been able to accomplish, the Class of 2009 will also send football, soccer, field hockey, basketball, ice hockey, skiing, and lacrosse athletes to play at NCAA Division 1, 2, and 3 schools across the country.  Without the willingness of our athletes to risk failure and fully dedicate themselves to a singular cause while in season, we would not have had the pleasure of watching our athletes grow into the mature young men and women who will march in their green and white caps and gowns on Saturday.  Athletic excellence is nothing new to Proctor Academy, but Proctor's athletic department, coaches, and school community sends a heartfelt THANK YOU to the Class of 2009 for all of their hard work and dedication to Proctor Academy Athletics.

The Marvin Award is given each season to a boy and a girl who are new to Proctor for their leadership, sportsmanship, and ability.  In the words below of their respective coaches, Lynne Kenney and Ian Hamlet, congratulations to both Oliver and Courtney on this outstanding honor!

COURTNEY BIRCH - LACROSSE
Courtney has never player lacrosse before, but she has done a wonderful job in the goal and is constantly improving. She has a superb attitude, and she is a hard worker. I couldn't ask for a better player to have on the team. Courtney is willing to put aside her fear and try her best every game. Congratulations, Courtney, you really deserve this terrific honor!

OLIVER MOORE – LACROSSE
Oliver was a new junior attackman to the team this year and he quickly established himself as a goal scorer.  With a nose for the net, he quickly drew the attention of each opposing team's best defender in each game, opening up opportunities for the other attackmen to score.  Oliver’s knowledge of the game and focus in every practice made him an instant asset to the team.  He was also a featured Athlete of the Week, in part for scoring 15 goals in the first three games of the season.  He ended the season as one of the top scorers with a total of 30 goals and 19 assists.  His coaches were very pleased with his efforts this year and look forward to further great work from him next season.
