/ Fall / Mountain Biking / Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking has been a competitive sport at Proctor for eight years. With seven cross-country races, which occur on Wednesdays throughout the season, and a New England Championship on Sunday October 14th at Highland Mountain Bike Park, the league allows racers from all levels to find good competition. The team also travels to local riding spots on Saturdays, and has an extended trip to Vermont during the preseason. Practices are intended to develop technical riding skills and cardiovascular fitness. Each week, one day is spent improving the trails throughout Proctor's expansive 2700 acre campus, which is fully utilized by the team.  Whether it be hillclimbs, downhills, smooth fireroads, or tight singletrack, immediate access to an amazing array of trails allows the Proctor Mountain Biking team to continue to be a league leader in the up and coming sport.  If you are interested in learning more about the Mountain Biking program at Proctor Academy, please contact Josh Norris (603.735.6282) or Chris Rogers (603.735.6282).

FALL 2012 SEASON OVERVIEW:
Proctor Mountain Biking secured its fourth straight series championship and won the New England championship through the hard work and dedication of the entire team. From first year riders to seasoned veterans, every member contributed to the team's success. It was this excellent attitude and pure enthusiasm for the sport that set the tone for the season. Proctor riders comprised 9 of the 20 “A” category riders and had regular podium finishers in all four categories. Jack MacClarence was the number one senior rider, Speight Drummond was the number one junior rider, Sam Shannon was number one for sophomores, and Hazel Brewster was the top female rider in series point standings. In addition to the continued growth of the team, we also enjoyed the inclusion of Jen Summers and Chris Farrell to the coaching staff. Our facilities were expanded, as well, to include the construction of a pump track, continued expansion of our trail system, and renovation of our bike shop. All told, Proctor Mountain Biking is enjoying a healthy rate of growth, and we are looking forward to the continued success of the program.

MVP – JACK MACCLARENCE & HAZEL BREWSTER
Jack had an outstanding season mountain biking this year! He won 6 out of 8 series races and won the New England Championships by over a minute. As team captain this year, Jack helped push the pace in every practice, and set the tone for race efforts. As a result, other riders in the team improved and had personal bests. Jack led the team to win our League Championship and the New England Championship. We look forward to hearing about his future mountain bike, cyclocross, and cycling successes. Thanks for a great season, Jack!

Hazel improved tremendously this year. At the beginning of the year, she asked us to move her up to the B-Category so that she could have more of a physical challenge, and to have riders to push her to ride faster. Hazel finished in the top ten in the B-category in several races. No other girl raced in the B-category, and Hazel was the fastest girl by average lap time in every race, including the New England Championships. Her efforts were crucial to Proctor's team winning the New England Championship, and the league overall. Thanks for a great season, Hazel!

MOST IMPROVED – ETHAN BUTTERWORTH
Ethan's improvement this year was tremendous! Through hard work and dedication, Ethan steadily moved up the ranks in the C-category. After finishing around 5th for the 3rd time in a row, Ethan asked what he could do to podium. We suggested he start riding with the B riders during practice. The next race, Ethan won the C category! Not only are we proud of Ethan's improvement, but we were also very impressed with his dedication to the team. Ethan often stayed late after practice to clean and organize the bike shed, and he was always helpful during trail workdays. We are looking forward to Ethan's continued improvement next year!
