One of the emerging disciplines in alpine skiing is Freestyle. Once limited to moguls and ramp aerials, the “free” in freestyle has been redefined in recent years with the addition of half-pipe and Big-Air competitions. Proctor’s Freestyle program has been developed for athletes who are looking to continue competing in freestyle, or who are new to competition in the sport. Athletes compete in USSA competitions around New Hampshire. Most area competitions are in Slopestyle or Rail Jams, giving athletes the ability to express their individual style. Proctor also competes against other Lakes Region schools in interscholastic "Freeride Series" competitions.

2012-2013 SEASON OVERVIEW:
The snow never came early, but the cold definitely did. Skipping the usual dry-land training and endurance trials of early preseason, the Freeride Team went to work on grinding PVC rails behind Proctor. With ice shavings from the ice rink and a bit of elbow grease, we created a great strength circuit of hauling the hockey snow, shoveling it, and skiing it. The cold temps held into even colder temps allowing the Sunapee Park Crew full power and creative force early on. With a full park to play on early season, the Proctor Freeride Team became very comfortable with going big on the competition we hosted. The Lakes Region Series went very well, and we usually placed wonderfully in the top 3 and top 10 for most of our athletes, placing 3rd in the Team Category for the Lakes Region Series.

With the second year of getting very little snow from the weather patterns, the airbag proved to be a great training tool for learning new air tricks such as flatspin 540s and corkscrew 720s. USASA competitions were a side note on Sundays, but notable. Jackson Buscher, and Justin Pasculano in the male category did very well. Erica Sullivan did amazing for the woman's category. Justin got 2nd at Waterville, while Jackson got 2nd at Waterville, 1st at Loon, and a 3rd at Ragged. Erica placed 1st at Loon and Ragged, and at a couple of Lakes Region events as well. With many other athletes, many medals, and plenty of great tricks landed on the slopes, the season wraps up with solidified winnings, fantastic progression, and even greater friendships. There were bumps along the way, all of which we can learn from, both on and off the slopes. Father Winter smiles toward the end of a great and plentiful year. Merry winter to all, and to all a good night.

MVP – JACKSON BUSCHER
Jack Buscher is an amazing man – very mature and calm at all times, always thinks tactically, and is emotionally sound in ways of competition and life. His sport has truly shaped him into a master of his own mind, and people around him respect that so much that they are willing to follow him to the end of even the longest days, for ever more laps in the terrain park. Jackson has amazed me with his ways in strategy – collected and happy he is like a beam of positive energy for the ski slope, off the ski slope, and his team. This personal grounding will keep going for the remainder of his life, I have no doubts. Congrats on MVP.

COACHES’ AWARD – IAN HISLOP
Ian Hislop has shown hard work and elbow grease in his studies, and on the ski slope. His willingness to keep going and keep learning astounds everyone around him. When there is an activity of any kind, Ian does his very best and beyond what is asked, no matter what the workload of it contains. When other kids would rather ride the bus, he would rather walk, when his peers start losing endurance, he gets to work. Embracing every challenge in life is an unrivaled quality, no matter the sport, no matter the job. To this I give the Coach's Award. Keep up the hard work, Ian. Congrats.
