Play Within Play
5/21/2009
The spring musical production of The Man of La Mancha plays Friday and Saturday at 7:00 PM.

Once again, the drama team has pulled off an artistic triumph, in a show that conveys irrepressible hope and quest for dignity in the worst of times. The acting is near-professional in quality, and the vocals are over-the-top!

Most of The Man of La Mancha is a play within a play. With all of the hard work that is going on here, I am tempted to dwell on the concept of "play." Athletic teams played their final games of the year Wednesday.

Sports are structured play. The late arrival of warm spring weather encourages less structured recreation, too. Students soaked a couple of large tarps with soapy water to create a serious slip-n-slide outside the Community Center Wednesday night.

They hurled themselves with reckless abandon on the cold slide...

Soon, they broke into teams for relay races.

At some risk, they skidded while standing.

Here are our School Leaders, Duncan and Danny.

The event quickly drew a crowd of spectators.

It was a good evening for cartwheeling.

Just across the quad, outside the Machine Shop, Spencer is putting the finishing touches on a truly unique go-kart.

Wood turning: work or play?
Elliot could teach us a thing or two about play.
Will plays "The Governor" in a Spanish prison during The Inquisition.
Driving on goal in lacrosse.
Kelsey fires.
Fellow science teachers have slowly transformed Ian Hamlet's desk into a restricted access area. That's a banana peel, above.
Chris Allen stepped up to the mike in today's assembly to belt out Ben E. King's "Stand By Me."
A somersault starts this descent on the slide.
Hunter sprints ahead of Tim in an impromptu race.
