Warm sunshine tempered cool April air to provide a delightful Spring Family Weekend. Family weekends accomplish several distinct goals. Obviously, they provide parents an opportunities to experience their kids' lives firsthand.

 

Friday's assembly featured a brilliant student-created video promoting Proctor through short-clip testimonials. Then, a psychology class used a lesson on positive action as therapeutic behavior to promote the Andover Food Bank.


 

Parents attend Friday morning classes. I suggest we contrast blood pressure readings when parents are not present with those conducted Friday....


 

In the boatshop, Tommy got a helping hand from his dad on his skiff renovation project.


 

The center of social activity are hospitality carts plying us with hot drinks, cookies and muffins, manned by parent volunteers.


 

Another initiative orchestrated by parent volunteers--the annual Spring Fling tennis tournament--drew several current students to round out doubles teams. Here's Emma pummeling Peter with an overhead smash in warm-ups.

Evening entertainment included a dance at the ski lodge featuring the faculty rock 'n roll band. Actually, Nick's Other Band could be accurately called a parent band in light of the fact that Keith Barrett (lead guitar) and Phil Goodnow (rhythm) are fathers of in-coming freshmen; Eric Viandier (blues harp) is a current parent, while Nick Eaton and I are parents of alumni/ae. The band is all about participation, and this group of parents joined in on vocals for "Honkytonk Woman."


 

Following a second round of parent-teacher conferences, we supported Proctor teams in a full slate of games. Here's Connor driving for a first period score against New Hampton.

Following those contests, parents took their kids off campus for a couple of days of New England site-seeing. We have Monday off!
