Skiing was first offered at Proctor in the mid-30's on the hill above the football field (still called "Slalom Hill.") In the years that followed, the school's ski school enrolled virtually every student; trips were launched to Lake Placid and the Laurentians, and Proctor became known as "the school on skis."

In the late '60s, under the leadership of Bob Wilson, students dynamited granite ledge on the north-facing slopes of Blackwater Hill and cut trails around a rope tow that was soon replaced by a used T-bar Bob found in Michigan. Snow-making and lighting were added in the '90s, and Yarrow's Lodge was completed in 1997.

Today, Proctor boasts one of the healthiest ski traditions in New Hampshire. Nearly half of the school participates in winter "sliding" sports, from top level FIS and USSA ski racing, to a huge snowboarding freestyle and race program competing within the USASA circuit to cross-country to one of the strongest ski jumping programs in the northeast. The jewel in the crown of Proctor's snowsports has been the Blackwater ski area.

The ski area caters not only to Proctor athletes, but also has a wonderful relationship with the town of Andover. The Andover Outing Club provides opportunities for local children to learn to ski downhill, cross country and jumping. In addition, many area high school teams use our facility to train their racers.

Coming from the: South: I-93 North to Exit 17, Route 4 West 17 miles into Andover. Go left at "Jake's Market" onto Lawrence Street. 3/4 mile go right onto Blackwater Lane (there is a Blackwater Ski area sign on the left side of the road).

Southwest: North on I-91 to Claremont/Springfield. Follow Route 11 across to Andover (one hour) OR stay on I-91 to White River Junction; pick up I-89 South; take Exit 11; turn left onto Route 11; follow Route 11 to Andover. Go right at "Jake's Market" onto Lawrence Street. 3/4 mile go right onto Blackwater Lane (there is a Blackwater Ski area sign on the left side of the road).

Northwest: At White River Junction get on I-89 South; take Exit 11 (second New London exit); turn left onto Route 11; follow route 11 to Andover. Go right at "Jake's Market" onto Lawrence Street. 3/4 mile go right onto Blackwater Lane (there is a Blackwater Ski area sign on the left side of the road).

North: From Maine take I-95 South to Portsmouth Circle; take Route 4 West to Andover. Go left at "Jake's Market" onto Lawrence Street. 3/4 mile go right onto Blackwater Lane (there is a Blackwater Ski area sign on the left side of the road).
