Your task is to determine whether the style, tone and curriculum of a school is a good match for your interests and abilities. There are several ways you can learn about a school so you can decide whether to apply. Good researchers know that accurate knowledge cannot come from only one source; you should use as many ways as possible to gather information. They also know that your result (i.e., your decision) is only as good as the questions you ask. After all, this decision is not about how you got in, it’s about what your life will be like once you’re there.

The GUIDEBOOKS: Note that the most helpful of these do not rely on simple ranking strategies, which tend to gloss over subtle elements that make the difference in the quality of your life and intellectual development. You need to read several guides to assemble a representative picture of a school.
