College Counseling Calendar |  | College Counseling Handbooks Timeline 10th Grade TIMELINE FOR SOPHOMORES September Take a solid and appropriate courseload. Be an involved community member. Build strong relationships with Proctor faculty. Work hard in all classes. October Meet with your advisor to build a three-year Academic Plan. Start thinking about and planning for Off-Campus Programs. PSAT's: Saturdayy, October 17, 2009 April/May Register for June SAT Subject Tests, if applicable. Create an appropriate, yet challenging schedule for junior year. Consult a College Counselor with any questions. Do a good job on your final exams. June/July/August SAT II Subject tests: Saturday, June 13, 2009 at home, if applicable. Work, pursue a passion, be involved in community service, and read.
Visit a few colleges.

Juniors and parents receive College Counseling Handbook and access to Family Connection. October 17, 2009: Fall Family Weekend -College Counseling Presentation- Panel includes: Dr. Joe Greenberg, The George Washington University, Regional Director of Admissions and Eric Nichols, Stonehill College, Associate Director of Admission. Junior Parents complete Parent Questionnaire by November 30, 2009. November Assignment of College Counselor Juniors planning on being off campus during the Spring Term:Register for SAT Reasoning Test in Dec. and ACT with writing in Feb. Meet with a College Counselor to develop Exploratory College List December/January Schedule a meeting with your college counselor to develop exploratory list. Begin ongoing research of exploratory list using the Family Connection. Register for April ACT with writing (Test Center: 216630).

College Counselors assist juniors with registering for May SAT Reasoning Test. Juniors planning on being off-campus during the Spring Term: SAT's in December and ACT's in February March Research and college visits. Update Family Connection with journal entires about likes and dislikes. Student/Parent communication. April/May Schedule meeting with your College Counselor: Create Probability Chart Review Senior Year curriculum with your College Counselor ACT with writing: Saturday, April 10, 2010. SAT Reasoning Test: Saturday, May 1, 2010. Thursday, April 29, 2010: College Fair at Colby-Sawyer College May 1 to May 10: Advanced Placement Exams, if applicable. Complete Teacher Recommendation Form. Register for June SAT/ACT (if applicable) June/July SAT / Subect Test, if applicable, June 5, 2010
Continue college visits during early June or late August. Set-up and complete the Common Application. Start organizing and reviewing applications. Draft college essay and supplemental essay questions. Create resume of activities, work experience, interests, and community service Research scholarships. Work on portfolio / audition, if applicable. Have a productive summer: work, study, community service, complete summer reading, and find time to have a little fun. If you are interested in SAT prep, pursue it at this time. August Plan any remaining college visits and interviews for the fall. (Week after Labor Day, Fall Family Weekend, or Bonus Weekend) Start planning an exciting Senior Project. |

 Timeline 12th Grade TIMELINE FOR SENIORS August/September/October Common Application should be completed before returning to Proctor in the Fall. Update College Counselor on summer visits. Draft a preliminary final list. Register ONLINE for needed College Testing. Keep drafting the college essay, complete resume, and work on a portfolio or audition, if required. Work on Supplemental Forms and essays. Research scholarships opportunities. Meet with your College Counselor throughout the fall trimester to put together a well-balanced 'Final List.' October 10, 2009 - SAT Reasoning / SAT Subject Test. October 17, 2009: All seniors meet with College Counselors to work on college applications! Keep working the College Essay with your English Teacher. Meet with visiting college representatives - In the Fall of 2008, over 65 colleges are scheduled to visit Proctor Academy. Fall Family Weekend is a terrific time to make final college visits and complete required interviews. November SAT Reasoning / SAT Subject Tests recommended, if not taken in October. Application list is finalized. Check deadline dates on all college applications.
Note: Transcript Requests are due in the College Counseling Office two weeks prior to deadline. November 15th -Early Decision deadline for many schools November 30th - University of California system application deadline Fall trimester grades are in!! Interview at schools during Thanksgiving break. December SAT Reasoning, SAT Subject Tests and/or ACT (if needed). Review college applications with your College Counselor prior to Winter Break. January/February All applications should be completed by January 15, 2010. January 21, 2010 - Winter Midterm Grades are available and ready to be sent to colleges. Financial Aid Information (FAFSA and CSS Profile) should all be completed before February 1st. March/April Final winter term grades are in! Many colleges will request these grades before making a decision. Continue researching scholarships opportunities. Seek out College Counselor for support in making final college decision. May May 1, 2010 : Decision Day! Reservation Agreement and Deposit must be mailed. May 29, 2010: Graduation Day - You made it! |
