Residential Life Update Gifts totaling $375,000 has propelled planning for the second dormitory in our residential life initiative! Like Peabody house, this residence will be centrally located on campus and constructed to reflect the “abiding commitment to the environment” that is written into the school’s Mission Statement. Unlike Peabody house, this dormitory will be heated by steam from the new, highly efficient biomass furnace. This residence will be more than a dormitory. Our intention is to demonstrate a wholly new standard for campus living, as we look ahead at the future of residential life in strategic, long-range planning. The school that will exist in 2028 will be transformed by our actions today.
Blackwater Ski Area Update Phase 2 of the Blackwater improvement plan continues. We will be widening trails and enhancing both snow making and lighting. $193,179 has been raised towards Phase 2 of the Blackwater improvement plan for a grand total of $403,009 toward a $650,000 goal!
Slocumb Hall
A $1,000,000 gift was generously given by Geoff Morris '62 toward the renovation of Slocumb Hall. In February 2010 the Board voted to proceed with Phase 1 of renovations. The north end of the building (once a small dormitory and now under utilized) has been removed. In its place, a new entrance will welcome the community to a lobby with a photography classroom to the right (south) and dark room facilities to the left. Straight ahead, the lobby leads to a new entrance to the existing studio art space. While minor improvements will be made to the main structure (new lighting and the partition between the studio art and ceramics spaces,) additional renovation and insulation of that space (Phase 2) are planned. Slocumb Hall is a historically significant structure. Built as a village livery stable, it was renovated early in the 20th Century from drawings by the founder of the architecture school at Harvard University, H. Langford Warren. Teddy Maloney Rink Plans have been drafted for the front (south end) of the Hockey Rink project as a part of a total Athletics Renovation. This project is being considered Phase 1 as the funds are raised. A lead gift of $250,000 has been pledged accompanied by additional gifts totaling $275,000. Plans call for the addition of six locker rooms - two for visiting teams and both varsity and junior varsity spaces for Proctor boys and girls. Referees will have private changing spaces and bathrooms and shower rooms will meet long-standing needs. These facilities will serve teams over all three athletic seasons, with an entrance dedicated for fall and spring use.
Your support contributes directly to the advancement of these exciting initiatives and we thank you!
