The Health Center is a five-bed facility licensed by the State of New Hampshire Division of Public Health Services. It is staffed by five R.N.s and one Administrative Assistant and is open 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
Students who are ill must report to the Health Center if missing class. Day student parents are asked to call the Health Center if their child is ill or will be late to school for health reasons.
Prescription medication shall be held at the Health Center and shall be dispensed as appropriate. Exceptions may be made for allergy medications or daily antibiotic therapy as determined by the nurse.
INSURANCE
Proctor students are required to carry medical insurance. Parents are required to review their health insurance policies to insure appropriate away-from-home coverage. Please note that out-of-state Medicaid insurance is not valid. Student accident insurance is available from an independent agency and may be purchased through the Health Center.
MEDICAL SERVICES
In addition to a full-time nurse, clinics are held two times per week by the school physician. A nominal fee is charged for these services. All prescriptions ordered are billed home or to your insurance company by the pharmacy.
Franklin and New London Hospitals are used for emergency care. The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Concord Hospital also provide services. Orthodontic, dental, chiropractic, ophthalmalogic and optometric services are available in New London or Franklin. The cost of these services is the responsibility of parents.
COUNSELING/MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
Proctor makes available the services of licensed therapists. Their responsibilities include working with individual students, facilitating group discussions, psycho/social educational forums when requested, and providing referrals to the Proctor community for off-campus resources when requested or needed.
The school contracts with a mental health professional for twenty-four hour coverage, seven days per week. In addition, Proctor makes available the services of a substance abuse counselor when students’ lives are affected by the use of alcohol and/or drugs. The Counseling Center staff also coordinates services with psychiatrists when psychtropic medications are necessary.
Referrals may be made through faculty, staff, Health Center personnel, parents, and self-referral. Counseling services are provided at additional cost. Frequent communication between parents and our mental health personnel is standard practice.
