5/7/08 | vs Holderness School | Loss PA5 to Holderness16 | Tough loss to Holderness. Proctor scored first but couldn't hold the lead and Holderness leaped out in front. Hillary Creed played an outstanding game in goal, but the Proctor offense could not consistently finish. Trenny Smith had a wonderful game in the mid-field with two goals and Bridget Gilroy had a hat trick. On defense, Blair Southworth, Nicole Fernandez and Linsley Truesdale worked tirelessly.

5/7/08 | vs Holderness School | Loss 15-6 | As Proctor played its last home game against Holderness, we knew we were in for a tough game. The team prepared well utilizing an extra defensive wing to put more pressure on Holderness in the midfield and the girls executed that plan very well. Kayla Dansereau doubled the ball for all but eight minutes of the game while Maggie Hull transitioned from one position into another. Proctor showed poise and a sense of the game that was not part of our play in the early season. Great play by Eliza Perry with 2 goals, Story Southworth and Piper Tompkins in the midfield. We were very low on subs as two girls came down with the stomach bug within hours of the game so they had to do even more running than normal! Additional goals were scored by Jenny Galligan, Abbie Webb and Lauren Matthews with two. The entire team worked hard to match this team and we thank Lindsay Hoar for stepping up to spell some of our players for a breather!

However the Hornets could not crawl from underneath a five run fifth and a nine run seventh inning from New Hampton.
5/6/08 | vs Tilton School | Loss PA 5, Tilton 6 | Coming off a rough Brewster game, the young hornets bumbled their buzz down to Tilton on Tuesday only to find a team that was equally equipped for the harsh battles ahead. Although they suffered a tough, hard fought loss in overtime, they played with heart and other things that make it seem more dramatic. By the end of the game the defense racked up some good hits and plays in front of Sam "Whammy Bammy" Zamkow who made some dynamite saves. With the longpoles we had Kelly "the astronaut" Emery, Isaac "El Torro Grande" Levenson, Seth "String Cheese" Richardson, and Mike "The Little Giant" Ansara pushing the ball upfield and doing a good job holding the zone defense. With the legs of the team running the whole field and keeping the game close, we had the middies starring Andrew "The Warrior" Orosz, Bryan "The Fro Goes" Bott, Johnny "The Beached Whale" Felteau, Mark "The Flying Shoe" Woo, and Greg "The Flash" Moores flying the green and white down the field in a glorious fashion. In the offensive end the Hornets were moving, cutting, zig-zagging, and doing other things that the offense does. Behind at X the offense was fashioning Dillon "Fancy Pants" Evans, on his wings were the completely and utterly irresistable men of all men Henry "The Beast" Smith, and Erik "Dangles" Major. Other attack credit is passed on to Mansfield "one two step" Middleton, Simon "Tsunami" Mcnamee and Grayden "king kong" Pleasants. After a day of hard work and finding our inner warrior, we move onto a big rematch with KUA on Saturday. The team would also like to pass on some credit to some over the rim coaching on the sideline from Pete "Saucey Spaghetti" Southworth, and Chris "The Crumbler" Bartlett.
Coaches note: Student/athlete Erik Major answered the call to write a game summary and he didn't even mention that he notched a hat trick in this exciting game.

5/4/08 | vs Kenduskeag Slalom | The Proctor Academy Whitewater Slalom Kayak Team raced yet another stellar race. There was no sun to be seen or felt as the cold rain poured down on the beautiful natural setting of the Kenduskeag river just outside of Bangor, Main. Water dripping down large cliffs meeting the clear water with bubbling, foaming waves and holes separated only by rocks and steady currents. Finishing with a mean long sprint from the last gate, number 19, to the finish line.

Proctors woman placed one and two. No one in New England can touch Lia Arnzen in solid first place and Ali Brown with an outstanding clean run for second place. The girls were dirty their first runs where Arnzen received eight touches and Brown touching six gates. With fast second runs they cleaned up well both focusing on being clean eliminating six of their touches while driving hard for awesome finishes. Brown disappointed having beaten Arnzen the week before was stoked for having a clean run.

The men were equally tough flying down the course hitting the tops of every wave with precision and speed accelerating hard after every upstream turn. Peter Arnold perhaps the biggest highlight was not just fast but fast and clean joining Brown for the woman. Arnold placed first with a more conservative race sacrificing some tighter weaving and bobbing for solid form and technique finishing on the same second both runs and staying off the poles nicely for a clean second run. Oliver Munsill on the other hand brought some heat and aggression paddling harder than we are used to seeing. Munsill matched his speed with fluid technique in the gates moving the boat closer to the finish line with each stoke brilliantly into second place just three seconds off of Arnold. Chris Hollinger far bigger and stronger is simply on the edge of making each course he paddles his own. Observing gates One through Seven you wonder who is moving fast in this yellow boat…but then sometimes racers lose control and the river takes over as the turbulent water flips his boat into gate six and the moving waves send him downstream upside down. Hollinger rolls back up however almost immediately and charges everything he has back up the eddy to make gate seven and avoid any penalty to finish excellently wearing a third place medal.

5/3/08 | vs Brewster Academy | Loss 3-9 | The young bees took it to Meriden and Brewster Academy Saturday, and after observing the Bobcats' warm ups and hearing of a senior attack and an older, skilled team, we were cringing. But the Hornets came out in a stingy zone defense that proved to be effective. Coaches had talked about having more energy and enthusiasm, and the swarm had the honey in mind. Despite being down 6-nil at the half, we were playing well and the second half was a brighter picture. Behind the seismic spin dodges of Erik "galaxy" Major and his two goals, the Bees scored three in the second half to match Brewster's offense. Dylan Evans tallied one twinkle-toe teaser off the side of the net, and Defensive Coordinator Bartlett was 'jacked' with the work rate of long poles Mike "Big Mig" Ansara, Isaac "Spicy Thai" Levenson, Alex "Thunder Hooves" Smith, Seth "Lobsta & Taters" Richardson, and Sam "Local Lollapalooza" Johnson. Netminder Sam Zamkow was large in net and kept his corps fired up. Next up, the JV bees have four games in five days with Tilton, White Mountain, Cardigan, and KUA on the slate. Pride is green.

5/3/08 | vs Brewster Academy | Win 15-7 | The lady hornets came out from the start of the game seeing the field well, cutting, and passing to the open player. We scored three goals in the first four minutes of the game and continued to remain focused and play with hustle and heart. Thanks to Katie Lehmann, Pau Jaime, and Zoe VonZweck, our defense was able to prevent many shots and caused numerous turnovers. Hannah Carlson had seven important saves as goalie! Abby Webb and Madison Keonig did a great job transitioning the ball from offense to defense. Our goals were scored by Kayla Dansereau, Eliza Perry, Story Southworth, Piper Tompkins, Abby Webb, Lauren Matthews, and Jenny Galligan. We accomplished this win TOGETHER!!

5/3/08 | vs Tilton School | Loss 24-25 | Proctor came up just short of a victory in a hard-fought battle against the Rams. An exciting game until the very end, the Hornets played solid defense and earned their highest run total of the season. Outstanding performances were offered by senior Corrine Cline and freshman Lily Munsill. Corrine went two for two at the plate and walked five times, showing her experience. She made things happen once she was on base, stealing home three times to earn crucial runs. In addition to playing a solid left field, Lily Munsill went three for three at the plate, with three walks, batting in two RBI’s. Teagan Morin pitched three solid innings of relief, allowing only 7 runs, earning one strike out, and giving up only four walks. Leading heading into the bottom of the seventh, the entire Hornet team showed great determination throughout the game. We look forward to our next game this Monday versus Brewster.

5/3/08 | vs Exeter TTT | <b>Andrew Osarczuk and Geordie Sousa repeat their success at the Exeter Team Time Trial</b><BR><BR> Similar to the Andover TTT, the Exeter TTT teams enter groups of two and they race a designated number of laps; the pair who completes their laps in the shortest amount of time wins. The difference in the two races is the course. Andover’s is on wide-open roads around their campus with high-speed corners. Exeter’s course is a very technical race with many hard-to-navigate corners, and on race day it was raining. Andrew and Geordie were excited to try and match their race at the last TTT. After a near panic of almost missing their start, the two started off cool and calm. Both are alpine ski racers and have no problem taking chances, to the point their coach was worried they might go for it too much. For Geordie this was his third time at this race and a second time racing for Andrew. After the start, the pair set about to the business of chasing down other teams. It became evident that these two were on a mission. For two laps the Hornets had a difficult time getting around a pair from Holderness and Gould, but once they did Andrew and Geordie distanced themselves even more. In the end, this Proctor pair was the only grouping to break the sub 19-minute mark and thus won the race, for their second two person Team Time Trial win of the year.
<BR><BR>
Proctor has three riders in the top twelve of the league, Andrew Osarczuk (1st), Geordie Sousa (3rd), and Tuckerman Ferris (11th). There are three more races to go and Proctor boys' B stands a good chance of a team and individual win.

5/2/08 | vs New Hampton School | Win 7.5-1.5 | The Proctor linksters rebounded from Wednesday's debacle, and soundly thrashed the visiting Huskies from New Hampton on the friendly confines of CCNH. Wilson Land and Robbie Little battled to a 1.5-1.5 split, and they were followed by the Hunter and Giggles show which swept all 3 points in their foursome. The final group of Tyler McKenzie and Connor Salema, with some help from Reed VG, followed suit and blanked their opponents 3-0. This was a huge win for the young and scrappy squad and a total team effort at that. Next up are the smart kids from Exeter, fresh off a morning date with the SATs.

Notable was #1 Dave Murphy's loss. After dropping the first set, he won the second 6-2. He then dropped the tie-break 7-5, but played well and certainly could have won his match.
KUA is a tough team this year. Our loss to them brings our overall record to 3 wins and 3 losses.

Riders Evan Gaskin, Robert Baxter and Andrew Friedman fought hard to stay with the main field but were separated about half way through the race. New riders Will Willsea and Will Humphrey were able to stay in the top ten of the pack for most of the race.
Proctor’s solo girl rider was not only able to stay in the top ten she also scored some sprint points, nice job Chelsea!

In the boys B race, Andrew and Tuckerman successfully worked as team to secure not only a individual win for Andrew but a team victory in the boys B race. The race started off with a bang for the Hornets. On the first points sprint 1st, 2nd, and 3rd went to Andrew Osarczuk, Geordie Sousa, and Tuckerman Ferris. When the bell rang again for the next point sprint it was Andrew and Tuckerman again in the top three. But disaster almost struck when on lap 18 of 30 a solo Stratton Mountain School rider nearly broke away. Had that rider gotten clear of the group and won the next 3 points laps he would have had enough to beat Andrew and win the race. Through Tuckerman's efforts and smart riding he was able to pull back that rider, thus saving the race for his teammate. Two more times Tuckerman dashed the dreams of would points getters by marking them and not allowing them to get clear of the group. Tuckerman's selfless efforts combined with Andrew's sprinting ability impressed all those that were watching.

4/30/08 | vs Kimball Union Academy | Loss 28-13 | KUA provided a challenge for a young Proctor team today. While the Hornets are still learning how make consistent fundamental plays, and battled numerous errors in today’s game, there were great individual offensive and defensive efforts. Kate Minister continues to provide the Hornets with consistent pitching, walking only three batters this game and striking out two. Corrine Cline had two extra-base hits in the same inning, a double and a triple, bringing home two RBI’s. Steph Pascual cleared the bases on a beautiful double, and Lily Munsill came up big today with two hits and two RBI’s. As a team, the Hornets continue to improve offensively, earning their most hits and runs yet this game. They look forward to a competitive match versus Tilton on Saturday.

Wilson Land's unbeaten streak came to a halt as he fell in a tough match to the Tilton #1.
4/26/08 | vs New Hampton School | Win 5-3 | Playing on our home field for the first time in front of a standing room only crowd, the JV bees showed grit and great effort in pulling away from the visiting New Hampton School. The Hornets began slowly by giving up the first goal. However, the long poles and soph goaltender Sam Zamkow came up big over the course of the game. In the middle, the "Bangkok Blur" Isaac Levenson, "Earthquake" Alex Smith, "Slammin' Sam" Johnson, Seth "Ricky Ricardo" Richardson, and "Silent bud Deadly" Mike Ansara (the clearing star of the day) all played well to collar the dogs. The midfield pounded up and down the acreage as turnovers were plentiful. The Hornets got great work from capt. Andrew "I lost my parents" Orosz, Mike "there's a hole in my pocket" Woo, capt. Dave "Next time I'll be on net, eh?" Cox, capt. Tucker "clydesdale" Danell, long pole Spencer "who needs warm-up?" Schwenk, "Air" Bud Hallock, and Greg "My twitch if faster than yours" Moores. Nearly all had shots on goal and settled into smarter passing. On attack, the hive was humming and the glory guys settled the ball better as the game went on. Erik Major, Simon McNamee, Henry Smith, Graydon Pleasants, Dylan Evans, and Mansfield Middleton all scooped and passed with moments of precision. It was Felteau who made the difference on the day by scoring three goals and adding a helper. Frosh Henry Smith tickeld the twine early and Bud Hallock also finished an underhanded laser to pace Proctor.

The PA defense played their strongest game of the year with outstanding performances by Trenny Smith, Blair Southworth, Nicole Fernandez, Alice Daly, Patty Dansereau, Annie Wagner, and Linsley Truesdale. Offense played outstanding defense in the second half resulting in countless turnovers by Cushing and 28 PA shots on goal. The Cushing keeper kept the Hornets at bay, but Bridget Gilroy scored two goals and Blair Southworth had another goal. The team is off to a 2-2 start on the season and plays KUA at home this Wednesday at 2:00PM.

Proctor held strong and by the end of the fifth inning brought the game within two runs, 9-7. New Hampton sealed the deal in the sixth by adding six more runs and striking out five of Proctors last seven batters. Proctor’s highlights included holding New Hampton scoreless for four innings and successfully completing a double play.
4/26/08 | vs Holderness School | Loss 6-3 | On a lovely Parents' Weekend spring day, the boys in green faced off against a dapper Holderness squad at Lake Sunapee CC in what would prove to be a tight fought match. Wilson "Slick Willy" Land continued his torrid streak by notching his 4th consecutive victory, dispatching the #1 from Holderness, and carrying the best ball match. Hats off to Ryan Clayton for stepping up and stepping into his first match as a Hornet. The middle guys Hunter and Giggles also hung tough and squeaked out some points, and Connor and Tyler pushed their matches to the final hole but in the end the deeper Bulls group snuck away with the victory. It was a valiant effort by a vastly improved Hornet squad, and after a couple of days off the team will be back at it with two big matches next week.

4/23/08 | vs Dublin School | Loss 5-10 | The junior bees suffered from 1st quarter heat stroke and fell behind 1-5 at the end of the quarter, as the Dublin attack danced around the offensive zone and tickled the twine with glee. After some adjustments, the Hornets settled into a zone defense and rookie goaltender Sam Zamkow found his groove. The result was a 1-1 second quarter and a 4-4 second half! Midfield line of Johnny "dangles" Felteau, Bud "submarine" Hallock, and Andrew "white lightning" Orosz were all over the field, while Bryan "Kid 'n Play" Bott, Mark "Whirling Dervish" Woo, and Tucker "Aspen Extreme" Danell sucked-up ground balls and laid the defensive lumber on the Dubliners. Sophmore Dylan Evans had a goal and a beautiful assist to Felteau. Henry "don't call me Harrison" Smith also had a goal and a helper with Felteau and Danell rounding out the scoring. Defensively, the whole unit improved over the course of the game.<BR><BR>

Although the boys in Green were not happy with the final score, all agreed that the second half effort
and improvement allowed us to put one bad quarter behind us and move on. Next up, the New Hampton Huskies for Family weekend. This will be a coaches' grudge match as New Hampton is coached by Proctor alum John Buck '86.....former student of Coach Peter Southworth and classmate of Coach Chris Bartlett.
4/23/08 | vs Tilton School | Win 4-4 (7-6) | The Tilton Rams impressed last Wednesday as they nearly took one over the Hornets.
#1 Player Dave Murphy came through with his singles point winning in two tie-breakers. #2 Zach Frumkin also came through in impressive fashion winning in straight sets. The two then paired at #1 doubles and won 8-5 and took a third point. Also winning for the Hornets was #4 Thomas Jennings who won 7-5, 7-6 (7-4). While #3 Duncan and #4 Charlie did not fair as well, Duncan may have turned out to be the hero in this tightly contested match. Playing a tough competitor, Duncan took the second set. As the matches ended up tied 4-4 after all were played, we resorted to counting sets. Thanks to Duncan's one set, we edged them out 7 sets to 6! It should be noted that all players exhibited flawless sportsmanship in our most competitive match to date.

4/23/08 | vs Holderness RR | Due to complications at the finish there are no official results for this years Holderness road race.
The format is a 23 mile point to point road race.
Proctor’s best result of the day was Tuckerman Ferris in 7th or 8th. Though it should be said that Tuckerman, a second year rider made a near perfect move in the last mile of the race, only to be brought back in the final 400 meters.
After two riders were caught by the main field and absorbed into the pack, Tuckerman made a heck of an attack and almost got away. Three different school’s riders chased him down, Holderness, Gould, and New Hampton. It was a valiant effort. Maybe next year.

Kate Minister got the start for Proctor. She pitched 2 innings allowing 10 hits and 4 walks. Teagan Morin came in for relief. She pitched 3 innings allowing 10 hits and just 2 walks.
4/19/08 | vs Cardigan Mountain School | Win 7-1 | The junior bees traveled north to Cardigan Mt. School to take on a young and talented squad. On this day it was the defense that gave the offense plenty of room to work and kudos go to Soph Seth Richardson who jumped into the net with our goalie away for the weekend. In front of him, freshmen Mike Ansara, Spencer Schwenk, and Sam Johnson swarmed and kept the Cardigan attack from penetrating. Soph Isaac Levenson and Junior Kelly Emery rounded out the long stick defense. The Hornet middies worked hard in transition on a day when there were only seven of them on the field. Mark Woo and Andrew Orosz showed their speed and galloped on a few fast breaks. Tucker Danell and Jon Felteau again won the “Hoover” award for most ground balls, and Felteau had the highlight of the day as he tossed a behind the back goal into the twines. Bryan Bott rumbled and rambled along with David Cox, and freshman Bud Hallock had a break out day on offense as he scored three times from outside. On attack, Dylan Evans was busy with 2 goals and 2 helpers to add to a tally by Henry Smith. Mansfield Middleton, Erik Major, and Simon McNamee moved the ball well on attack. Next up is Dublin and another road trip. Of note last Wednesday the team nominated captains: Juniors Andrew Orosz and David Cox are joined by sophomore Tucker Danell to lead the team this season.

A major highlight was that Hannah Carlson had 8 saves in her first game as goalie with some fantastic "stuffs". Great job, Hannah! In addition, as a team, our hearty opponents challenged our girls to step-up and play better defense and more aggressive offense. This game gave the lady hornets some solid goals and skills to work on as we look ahead to play Dublin.

4/19/08 | vs Kimball Union Academy | Win 14-10 | The Varsity Baseball Team put forth a top notch team effort on Saturday to log their second win of the season. The lead changed three times by the fifth inning when Proctor lead 9-7. The Hornets could not hold on to the lead though, giving up three KUA runs in the bottom of the sixth making the score 9-10 heading into the last inning. In the top of the 7th, Chris Ruez led off with an infield single. After a stolen base, Chris MacArthur bunted him over to third. Danny Allen then hit a ground ball scoring Ruez, tying the game. After a double by Beasley (later confirmed a homerun but ruled a ground rule double) and a walk, Junior Tyler Swertfager stepped to the plate with bases loaded. With a 3-1 count Tyler smacked a grand slam to give Proctor a four run lead. Danny Allen then pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to record the win. Every player contributed to the winning effort, including five different pitchers. Alex Ronn made a solid first start for the varsity squad. Proctor's next game is Wednesday 4/23, at Holderness.

4/19/08 | vs Kimball Union Academy | Loss 9-0 | In a puzzling turn of events, Proctor took its perfect 2-0 record into KUA today and were soundly beaten. WIth one match being decided in a tie-breaker and nearly all registering close second sets, it was surprising to get shut out. We just could not get any to fall our way today.
The best match of the day was played by Duncan Sullivan at #3 singles. He eventually lost his match in a tie-breaker after winning the first set in a tie-breaker 7-4. He played well, but like his teammates, found the opposition too much today.
In true Proctor fashion, the team exhibited model sportsmanship throughout the contest.
It was as much a pleasure to coach these guys today as it was during our 6-3 win the other day versus Holderness. They are a great bunch of young players and men. Many of my previous teams could learn from this group in terms of keeping perspective and having fun. As one returning player, Thomas Jennings, says: "There are zero worries on my court...zero!"

The Hornets best result of the day came in the Boys B category. Geordie Sousa and Andrew Osarczuk had the fastest time for a group of 2 and were beat only by a group of three from Gould.

4/16/08 | vs Holderness School | Win 6-3 | Today Proctor posted what may be its most impressive win in two years! Our 6-3 win over a deep Holderness team was a triumph that was punctuated by great sportsmanship and strong performances among returners and newcomers alike.
Dave Murphy set the tone with a strong 6-0, 6-3 win over Holderness #1 Chas Stewart. Zach Frumkin, playing 2 spot, posted a strong 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) win over Dylan Zimmerman. Duncan Sullivan played #3 for us today and was rock solid with a win over Zander Borsiczky 6-3, 6-4. Thomas played a great match against a talented #4 named Dillon Corkran and lost 6-4, 6-1. Thomas and his doubles partner Duncan would later redeem themselves with a key #2 doubles win! Surprise newcomer Charlie Stern played #5 and pulled out a huge win 4-6, 6-3, (7-5) over a talented Holderness player, Oscar Pierre from Spain. Tristan Jones, who could use a few less hours with a sword in his hand but a few more with a racquet, played skillfully but lost to #6 Willy Hoeschler. Tristan demonstrated excellent athleticism and an ability to learn how to win: in each game he edged closer to finding the answer to his opponent's game. He lost 6-1, 7-5.
Proctor left the singles portion of the match up 4-2.
At one doubles, Zach and Dave suffered a tough loss to Holderness players Abe Noyes and Dylan Corkran. At two doubles, Jennings and Sullivan took their match 8-6 and at 3 doubles the pairing of Paul Jeppesen and Charlie Stern left the court with the fifth and deciding point, having finished first and winning 8-6.
In addition to their performances, the most impressive thing today about our players was their letter perfect sportsmanship. It was a pleasure to coach this team today!

4/12/08 | vs St. Paul's School | Finally the team has seen the 8 and 12 meter fans and the restraining lines of a full field. They were able to play with more than 4 people at a time and it was actually quite warm and sunny despite a forcast of heavy rains. We got the jitters out and know what we need to work on as soon as our field is clear of snow - soon with luck! The team is composed of a few experienced players, many more in their second and third season, and 5 players who have held a stick for 11 days. Maddie Koenig played well from the experienced division, playing whereever we needed her today. Jenny Galligan found the net twice after only scoring once all last season (her first) and Zoe Von Zweck, from the beginner group, played very well, showing she has learned and listened at every single practice. The girls did a great job after having been in some pretty small spaces up until now. We look forward to our first game next Saturday and hope the weather cooperates to get us onto our field soon!

4/12/08 | vs Hebron Academy | Loss 16-9 | Proctor had a long first half against a quick and offensively talented Hebron team yesterday, falling 11-1 by the end of the half. Hebron came out strong at the start of the second half, firing home two quick goals, but the Hornets found a little fire within themselves shortly after. Through hard work and heart, Proctor led the second half 8-4 in scoring and were continuing to push the net until the last seconds of the game. Although the final score was 16-9, well in Hebron's favor, the Hornets left the field with their chins up yesterday, having fully learned the meaning of "never quit." Coach Mike Curtis and I were very proud of their second half effort. <BR><BR>

A few of the Hornets were seeing a lacrosse game for the first time and while the game was never in question (Exeter has practiced on a full field for weeks and has played a few games), the team played hard, chased ground balls all over the field, and had a blast. Notably, sophomore goalie Sam Zamkow did a great job in his first game between the pipes as he saw lots of rubber coming his way. Some used klister, some used hard wax, some just roughed up the base with sandpaper. Many double-poled the relatively flat course. Leading off the pack for Proctor was Emma Jones who came in 11th in 20:52 and ended the season in 10th overall in the league. Meredith Cline, in only her second day of racing after mono and a limited training regimen, had a good finish about halfway through the pack in 22nd. Caroline Pond, despite a recent flare-up of painful bursitis, raced to a 29th. The boys had a more difficult time but persisted through the tough conditions. Saam Aiken led the team with a 22nd place finish in 20:41, while Jackson Bicknell finished a minute back in 28th. David Murphy, dealing with a long-term sickness, finished just two spots back from Bicknell. Ripley Harrington rounded out the scorer’s in 45th. The team learned some important lessons from the day to bring with it next year. The 2008 squad is a young team and will not graduate any skiers. We look forward to the pack of new faces coming up next year, and to the continued improvement of the current bunch. Although their competitions have ended, by the looks of the massive snowpack they can enjoy at least another six weeks of skiing!

2/27/08 | vs Middlesex School | Loss 1-2 | In a hard fought battle this afternoon the Hornets came up on the short end. The action was fast and furious throughout the game with each team taking their turn controlling the puck and putting incredible pressure on their opponent. Both goalies had a number of fantastic saves. Mel Spears was awesome in the Proctor net. Proctor took a 1-0 lead in the first period while short-handed. Lisa Mullan did her patented strip-the-defense at the blue line and take the puck to the net. She had a perfect shot into the upper right corner and Proctor had the advantage. Middlesex scored their goals in the second period, one on a breakaway and one power play goal. Everyone on the team played well and worked hard today. Today's game was a great end to an extremely successful season. The defense played their hearts out and the offense looked awesome. Unfortunately, even in hard fought games someone has to lose. Wish it weren't so!! :)

2/27/08 | vs Lexington Christian Academy | Win 66- 42 | Hosting the New England Quartrfinals in the cage was a first for the Lady Hornets in school history. The girls entered the tournament with a 17- 1 regular season record and received the number 3 seed out of 32 teams. Today they played 15- 4 Lexington Christian Academy, with the winner advancing to the semi-finals being played Friday Feb. 29. Playing to their "Super Fans" the Hornets came out swarming and led at the half by 12. Patty Dansereau (8pts.) who did not play a great deal in the first half, due to foul trouble came out in the second half and worked hard on owning the boards which allowed the Hornets to get into their fast break offense. By playing tenacious defense, Jojo de Pena and Stephanie Pascual (each with 4 pts.) made LCA give up the ball in the back court and create scoring opportunities. Angelica Pascual (21 pts.) was assisted by Pinky Fifield (18 pts) and Kate Minister (12 pts). Eliza Perry came off the bench to create a strong presence on the boards and added to the victory, while Kayla Dansereau played smart defense and caused LCA to work hard for their shots. The girls have worked hard all season and look forward to playing on Friday either against Westover or KLHT.

2/23/08 | vs Brewster Academy | Loss 2-4 | In a fast, action packed game today, Brewster ended up with a 4-2 win. Proctor honored their seven seniors today, and those seniors (and everyone else) came out flying and working as a team. The ladies were stellar at both ends of the rink and got a number of excellent scoring chances, but couldn't quite find the back of the net. Brewster scored two goals from close in front of the net as the first period was coming to a close. The second period saw Proctor take a number of trips to the penalty box and reduced the number of our scoring chances. Brewster was able to convert once again. The Proctor Ladies came out in the third period and upped the pressure, but saw Brewster put the puck in the net one last time. The ladies finally got on track with some scores of their own. Nikki Fernandez made a perfect pass from deep in the corner of her own end to Emily White who was cutting through the neutral zone. Emily broke away and zipped a perfect shot into the upper right corner of the Brewster net. This gave the Hornets some extra gas. Another Proctor penalty followed, but Lisa Mullan stripped the defender at the blue line, went in on a breakaway and flipped the puck past a sprawled goaltender. Proctor continued the pressure, but a late penalty kept the team from closing the gap further. Chelsea Stevens had an excellent game in the net and the defense was stupendous. Captain Christina Pagano topped off four wonderful years as she led the group with her usual tenacious and scrappy play. Senior Emily Byrd had another solid game on the blue line. In her two years she has made a number of excellent, goal saving plays. Britt Dawber continues to astound the opponents offense with her incredible moves with the puck along the defensive boards and strong play anywhere on the ice. Elyse Duperey finishes her first year with us, and we are looking forward to three more to come. Her energy, efforts and effectiveness improved weekly, and she is an integral part of our team. The game was a great end to an extremely successful regular season and the team is looking forward to the challenges of post-season play.

The girls had 3 players in double figures Angelica Pascual with 27 pts., Kate Minister with 21 pts., and Pinky Fifield with 18 pts., followed by Jojo DePena with 10 pts., Stephanie Pascual with 9 pts., and Eliza Perry with 4 pts. The Dansereau girls, Kayla and Patty, played tough, agressive defense to create scoring opportunities for their sisters.
2/23/08 | vs Holderness School | Win 5-4 (OT) | In a double OT thriller, the Hornets advanced to the Lakes Region Championship final when Sr d-man Al Milley banged in a rebound of his own shot to put the finishing touch on a remarkable comeback by the visiting Proctor squad. Trailing 4-3 with the goaltender pulled, the Green Bees tied things up on a Connor Toomey goal with just 15 seconds on the clock. The two teams battled through a scoreless first OT session, and then the stage was set for Milley's heroics in the second OT. Sr goaltender Rob Simpson was spectacular in the win, making several point blank stops. Sr pivot Matt Robertson also turned in a gutsy performance scoring the first goal and assisting on two more.
2/21/08 | vs NEPSAC Championships | Yesterday eleven teams from around New England joined us at the Blackwater for the 2008 NEPSAC Nordic Skiing Championships. Grooming guru Garry George spent over five hours chopping up the hardpack and pushing snow onto a recently flooded field to leave a beautiful and firm mixed granular surface, perfect for the four races that followed. The day-long event kicked off with the boys’ individual six kilometer skate race. Racers began at fifteen second intervals and skied a course full of turns, uphills, downhills, and fields before ending in front of Yarrow’s Lodge. Jackson Bicknell distinguished himself as the first 9th grade finisher, skiing the race in 20:14 for 27th overall. Our first-time skier from Florida, Saam Aiken, came in 31st just about a minute back from Jackson. Rounding out the scorers was sophomore David Murphy, a first time skier from outside of D.C. David completed the course in 22:24. Representing Proctor, France, and Romania, sophomore Ripley Harrington finished strong in 26:59. The girls’ individual skate was up next. Junior Emma Jones of Andover showed quick enough tempo to give her a ninth place finish overall in 21:59 and NEPSAC All-New England honors. Niner Meredith Cline, also of Andover, made her post-mono debut in fine fashion, skiing the course in 23:54, the third ninth-grader and 19th finisher overall. Racers had a brief window of time for a little lunch and many basked in the sunny, calm, and cool day. Next up was the boys’ classical relay. After a mass start with the first skier from every team, second leg skiers positioned themselves in the tag zone awaiting their teammate. Two more skiers went around the loop after that with the fourth skier bringing it in to the finish. Proctor’s boys started out hard and made clean tags one after the other. Bicknell brought it home for the team with a fine final lap. The girls' relay featured Jones leading off, followed by Cline, then junior Caroline Pond of Andover who, despite bad hip pain, put in a great effort and finished with a furious double-pole into the tag zone. Niner Sophie Viandier, also of Andover, ate up the course and brought the girls home in sixth. We would like to thank all of those who helped with the race and all of you who were able to come and cheer the racers on.

Both teams played a high paced and aggressive game on both ends of the court. Proctor played hard, but ended their season with a tough loss against a well-coached and skilled New Hampton team. After the first 16 minutes, Proctor found themselves down by eight points. Starting the second half, Proctor’s team goals were to cut their turnovers, double their defensive rebounds and play smart against the Huskies tough pressure. Despite completing all of the team goals and out scoring New Hampton in the last 16 minutes, Proctor fell just short of a victory. The final score was Proctor 42, New Hampton 49. Simone Songue lead Proctor with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal. Rosie Loring also had a terrific game for the Hornets throwing in 7 points and grabbing 6 rebounds.

Eliza Perry played well under the boards and ended up with 9, and as always Patty Dansereau playing solid defense allowed the Lady Hornets to keep VA off the boards in the second half.
2/16/08 | vs Rivers School | Loss 2-3 | Proctor and Rivers played a fast paced, excellent game yesterday. Rivers scored first on a 2-on-1 break with a shot from the slot. Shortly after that a Rivers forward wheeled into the corner, turned back in front of the net, and snuck the puck in on the short side. Proctor came out flying in the second period and excellent forechecking kept the pressure on the Rivers defense. About five minutes into the period, Caitlin Miller skated out of the corner and got a shot on net, then with a number of Proctor sticks going for the rebound, Caitlin popped the puck into the net. The second period ended and the third period started at the same furious pace. Both teams put pressure on the other, and both goalies made some super saves. With about 5 minutes to go in the game Rivers capitalized on another 2-on-1 break and took a 3-1 lead. A minute later a Proctor power play saw Lisa Mullan wheel on goal and flick the puck into the Rivers net. Although Proctor continued to put on the pressure they weren't able to come up with the tying goal. Mel Spears had an excellent game in net and the Proctor teamwork was superb.

2/8/08 | vs Southfield School | Win 7-0 | After a scoreless and hard-fought first period, Proctor came out and dominated the second period. Emily White got the first of the night when she picked up a rebound from a Nikki Fernandez shot that had dropped in the crease. Minutes later Caitlin Miller scooped up the puck in the corner, curled towards the net and snuck a shot between the keeper and the post. That goal opened the flood gates and Em White picked up her second of the game when she went back door with a pass from Nikki & Brit Dawber. Lisa Mullan got into the action when she was fed a breakaway pass from Nikki Fernandez, gave the goalie a double fake and slipped the puck in the open net. Vika Mykolenko continued the onslaught when she slammed the puck home from right in front with a shot so quick many had not realized that it was in and out so quickly. The third period saw Proctor continue scoring when Brit Dawber moved in from the point, went around a defender and whistled in a wrist shot from the high slot. Vika Mykolenko finished the scoring after circling behind the net and zinging a blazer into the upper right corner. Mel Spears had an excellent game in the net making many good saves, several excellent save and several stellar saves. The defense was a rock all night long. Shutting down the Southfield shooters and clearing many a puck from out in front of Mel. Mel was a wall in net and worked hard to earn the shut out.

2/8/08 | vs New Hampton School | Loss 25 - 47 | This afternoon Proctor's JV girls’ basketball team took on the New Hampton Huskies. During the first half, the Hornets played with heart and determination. Offensively, the Hornets executed the plays and defensively crashed the boards. At the end of the first 16 minutes, Proctor had a seven point lead against a tough Husky squad. The second half New Hampton applied tough pressure and dominated the floor. The Huskies held us to just 6 points in the last 16 minutes. Proctor fought to the very end, but came up short. The final score after 32 minutes of play was Proctor 25 – New Hampton 47. Proctor was lead by Lily Munsill who threw in 7 points. Proctor’s next contest is at home vs. St. Paul’s at 2:45pm.

2/2/08 | vs Kimball Union Academy | Loss 2-4 | Both teams started the game skating well and things looked good for the Hornets when midway through the first period Lisa Mullan broke around the KUA right defender, deked the KUA keeper to the left, and planted the puck in the lower right corner. That seemed to sting the KUA skaters into re-doubling their efforts while the Hornets got a little bit complacent. KUA evened the score when the puck trickled out from behind the PA net and with what seemed like a dozen players hacking away, KUA was able to punch it home. KUA took a 2-1 lead with a turn-over from a Proctor breakout that led to a wrist shot from the mid-slot area. The second period saw KUA continue to fly and another melee in front of Chelsea Stevens saw the puck slip across the crease right onto the fore-hand of a KUA offender, and she popped it in the net. PA finally got untracked in the third period, They put tremendous pressure on the KUA defense and keeper. Great saves and close misses kept KUA with a 2 goal lead until Nikki Fernandez picked up a loose puck in the high slot and found the back of the KUA net. That was followed by an Elyse Duperey shot from the point that went between the keeper's legs, hit her skate, and came across the goal 2" from the line. A Proctor forward skating across the crease couldn't manage the touch to poke it home, and so went our third period. Vika Mykolenko had an open break-in and looked what appeared to be a goal, but there was no indication from the officials. (On the ride home Vika said the puck went in, hit the back of the net and came right back out.) With just over a minute remaining in the game and all 5 Proctor players pressing hard, KUA popped the puck over the blue line and came on a breakaway. Linsley Truesdale came from her wing and streaking back to help out. She was able to hurry the shooter and Chelsea Stevens got most of the puck, but it still trickled in behind her while never actually getting to the back of the net. The last minute of play saw PA pulling their keeper, but despite good pressure they were not able to pull any closer.

2/2/08 | vs NH Coaches Series | Proctor’s squad headed up to North Conway for the second New Hampshire Series Qualifier on Saturday for a 5k classic race on the trails at Whitaker Woods. Over five hundred skiers braved the early morning residue of the previous day’s ice storm and all with the same question on their mind: what would the kick wax of the day be? After some quick initial testing, we found a klister to our liking and fired up the torches. The boys’ A race led off the day with David Murphy showing a beautiful stride up the hills, Saam Aiken starting to connect the dots with his technique while learning where to push and where to rest on a course, and Jackson Bicknell, who, once he actually started the race, focused on everything he could to make his way around the course as fast as possible. Bicknell ended up finishing well enough to put him (combining results from the first qualifier) as the 10th of 20 team members on the New Hampshire J2 team that will be competing in the New England J2 festival in March! Ripley Harrington, racing in the B race, showed a powerful start to his race. Midway through Ripley used a well-timed kick double-pole and showed much improved technique and finished in 28:33. The girls’ team raced next. Caroline Pond, finally recovered from a lingering cold, showed spring in her kick again as well as a quick tempo to finish in 26:29. Sophie Viandier’s competitive drive kicked in once the start gun sounded. Viandier gave a consistent effort throughout the course and, combined with results from the first qualifier, also earned a spot on the New Hampshire J2 team! Junior Emma Jones had finished 24th at the previous qualifier and needed to improve on that to have a chance at automatically qualifying for the New Hampshire Eastern High School team. The Eastern High School Championship is a weekend of racing made up of teams of the 24 best skiers of any age (high school), male and female, from New York, Massachussetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Jones was confident in her skis and in her ability from the start. She picked up time at every possible spot and improved her finish all the way to 16th, good enough to qualify her for the New Hampshire Eastern High School Team!

1/30/08 | vs New Hampton School | Loss 49- 57 | Adversity brings out true character - this has been seen throughout the Lady Hornets' season. Eight players that have the same goal every game and every practice - to "Out Work, Out Play, Out Hustle" - went to New Hampton to play 32 minutes of basketball. In the first 16 the Hornets were not happy with their play and trailing by 6 at the half the girls went out for next 16 to show what it means to be a Team. Coming off the bench, Eliza Perry made key defensive rebounds to start the Hornets offense with Pinky Fifield (22 pts.) and Angelica Pascual (11 pts.) playing in the back court. Patty Dansereau and Stephanie Pascual (8 pts) both working hard on defense and making things happen allowed the Hornets to pick up momentum and take the lead. Losing Eliza Perry on fouls changed the defensive match up and forced the Hornets to go to a smaller back court. The girls only goal was to "Out Work, Out Play, and Out Hustle" and although they did do that at times, other times they were struggling with turnovers. Shooting 14 for 22 at the line was not a typical night at the free throw line for the girls, but with 10 seconds left and down by 6, the Team was still working... never quitting... as always.

1/30/08 | vs Lakes Region | The Hornets traveled once more to Saxton's River for a 5k skate race on Vermont Academy's rapidly cooling rain-soaked snow. The boys headed out first at fifteen second intervals. Jackson Bicknell was not intimidated by the addition of several national class skiers from the Stratton Mountain School or his high start position. Bicknell's strengths--his phenomenal ability to ski any snow condition, terrain, downhill, uphill or flat--helped him to his best finish yet: 12th in the Lakes Region. Teammates Saam Aiken and David Murphy weren't far behind with 16th and 18th place finishes. Aiken made some great technical breakthroughs and Murphy showed he's making progress in his technique, too. Rounding out the scoring for the boys, Ripley Harrington made it to the finish in 45th. While the conditions for the boys started out somewhat slushy, the snow was rapidly changing as a cold-front moved through, blowing cold air throughout the woods and turning the snow to ice. Both Emma Jones and Caroline Pond like such conditions and were encouraged by the development. Jones worked through the course efficiently and finished 10th in the league while Pond skied with good tempo and ended up 27th.

Despite a well-fought battle on both ends of the court and outscoring the other team in the second half, Proctor came up just a little short of a victory. The final score was Proctor 36 – Calvary Christian 45. With under five minutes left on the clock, Proctor brought the game within two points, but was not able to stop a determined Calvary Christian team. The Hornets were led by Simone Songue (11 pts, 4 rebounds, 6 steals) and Rosie Loring (8 pts, 7 rebounds, 1 steal).
1/25/08 | vs Governor's Academy | Win 5-4 | WOW, Hornets shock Govs in their new barn!<BR><BR>
Proctor rallied from a 3-0 first period deficit to upset ISL power Governor's Academy on Friday by the score of 5-4. Behind a stellar 40 save performance by Sr. netminder Rob Simpson the Green Bees buzzed back into the game by ripping off three consecutive 2nd period goals. The final frame was nip and tuck but the "no pinch" forecheck kept the speedy GA forwards at bay. The host squad cashed in on a horrific turnover to take a 4-3 lead late in the stanza but the Hornets would not go quietly and capitalized on the powerplay twice in the final minutes to take the lead. The Govs put the pressure on late but the boys from the north country held the fort and escaped with a huge two points. This was a much deserved win for a team that has been close many times and not drank the nectar. A much deserved break is the reward this weekend and then it's back to work on Monday to prepare for Brewster on Wednesday.

1/23/08 | vs Brewster Academy | Win 5-1 | The JV Hornets played a sound game against Brewster that was far more even than the score indicates. There was lots of action up and down the ice, but Chubbs Bryson ('10) was a scoring machine, rippling the twine 4 times, while Alex Cloud-Russell ('11) found the back of the net as well. Josh Kershaw ('08) was solid between the pipes, turning away about 16 bids. Proctor experienced a little penalty trouble in the 3rd period, but the solid penalty killing of everyone (we only have 8 forwards) kept the puck away from the goal.
1/23/08 | vs Dublin School | Loss 29 - 37 | Proctor’s JV girls’ basketball traveled to Dublin School this afternoon to take on a mixed level JV team. Just a few minutes into the first half, Proctor found themselves in a deficit due to the very aggressive defense of the Dublin squad. With hard work, determination, and great teamwork, Proctor managed to end the first half in a tie at 19. The second half was just as aggressive as the first. Proctor was able to keep the score within a few baskets. With just five and a half minutes left in the game Proctor tied it up again, but Dublin just kept attacking on offense. The Hornets fought the entire 32 minutes, but fell short as the last couple of minutes ticked away. The final score was Dublin 37 – Proctor 29. Proctor was led by Lily Munsill who added 10 points. Coming off the bench, Haley Gerber had a great game throwing in 6. Brit Dawber put Proctor ahead 1-0 in the first period with a long rush from mid-ice and finished the play with a nifty deke. NYA evened the score in the second, skirting the Proctor defense and beating Mel on the stick side. Later in the period NYA scored again to take a 2-1 lead into the third. Vika Mykolenko put PA back in control on a single shift, splitting the defense twice and finding the five hole both times. A couple minutes later, Linsley Truesdale scooped up a loose puck in the high slot, did a spin move and rocketed a wrist shot off the far post to give PA a comfortable 4-2 lead. With 24 seconds to go and their goalie pulled, NYA knocked in a shot from the point to cut the lead to 4-3.
