Beyond Proctor

Due to the early evolution of the Learning Skills program at Proctor, we have been tracking the success of former students for decades. The results are impressive as College Counseling Director Michael Koenig observes, “The roster of colleges attended by former Learning Skills students essentially mirrors that of non-Learning Skills students. The skills they have gained at Proctor—academic independence, personal confidence, self-awareness and self-advocacy—are life-long skills, and shape our graduates' success in college and in their professional careers.”

Rewarding Careers

Additionally, former Learning Skills students are enjoying rich careers spanning everything from the arts to business, finance, education and medicine. Head of School Mike Henriques notes, “It is no surprise—given the personal and academic self-confidence that comes with success at Proctor—that so many of our graduates choose entrepreneurial paths. They are creative, inventive and aware of new possibilities.” College business professor John O’Connor ’79 remarks, “Learning Skills gave me the skills to be successful at Dartmouth College. I only wish that all students could benefit from a similar program.” And entrepreneur Jim Dunbar ’49, founder of Dunbar Enterprises and a former Learning Skills student, claims simply, “Everything I have accomplished, I owe to Proctor.”
