Concentration Overview

Proctor Academy’s Global Citizenship Concentration is a unique, interdisciplinary program designed for students who are passionate about global citizenship, social entrepreneurship, and human rights. Building on Proctor’s longstanding commitment to experiential learning and international travel, the Global Citizenship Concentration links Proctor’s extensive academic, off-campus, and extracurricular globally- and socially-focused offerings in order to give students the knowledge, skills, and worldview needed to confront the great social and humanitarian issues of our day.

Immigration, social and economic inequality, terrorism, human rights, globalization, and other international concerns require interdisciplinary, nuanced, and culturally-sensitive approaches. Complex issues like these offer few clear-cut solutions. Learning to work toward common goals to problems in a manner respectful of multiple points of view requires thoughtfulness, resolve, and a clear sense of purpose. It also requires an exposure to and genuine interest in the lives and well-being of people, cultures, and regions of the world different from one’s own. To this end, each student enrolled in Proctor’s Global Citizenship Concentration will be asked to complete a Global Citizenship independent project and reflection designed to integrate the lessons he or she has learned while finishing the concentration requirements. Students who complete the requirements for the concentration will be recognized at graduation and receive a certificate of completion.
