Peter Whitehead ‘90 | Soccer, Hockey, Lacrosse

A three-sport standout on the varsity soccer, hockey, and lacrosse teams at Proctor Academy, Pete was a staple in the green and white throughout his three-year career as a Hornet. Following his graduation from Proctor in 1990, Pete played for the Sun Valley Suns in the Senior A league in Sun Valley, Idaho. He went on to star at Lake Forest College on both the varsity hockey and lacrosse teams. As captain of the 1994 Lake Forest Lacrosse Team, Pete also earned MVP honors. Following his collegiate playing days, he found his way into the coaching ranks, leading a squirt hockey team in Rye, New York. In 1998, Pete moved back to Sun Valley where he has raised his two children with his wife, and found himself coaching youth soccer and hockey. He would immerse himself in the world of hockey coaching for the Sun Valley Youth Hockey Association, where he coached at every level and served as Association President, helping build a program of over 400 athletes. His program won multiple state championships, youth tournaments across the Mountain West, and produced multiple Division 1 and professional athletes. Pete notes, “Throughout all my coaching, I leaned heavily on the lessons I learned at Proctor. My focus was never just about winning games—it was about giving kids the experience of being part of a team, working hard, having pride, showing respect, and carrying themselves with integrity.”

Winnett Cunningham Ordway starred on Proctor’s field hockey, alpine skiing, and lacrosse teams during her career in green and white, leading the ski team to a Lakes Region Championship and serving as captain for the lacrosse team. Following graduation from Proctor in 1994, Winnett continued her athletic career at St. Lawrence University where she was a standout on the varsity field hockey and women’s lacrosse teams. An avid lover of the outdoors, Winnett loves running, spending time on the water, and being in the mountains skiing or watching her three daughters ski race. Her passion for the outdoors extends to horses and caring for her horses, and supporting her girls develop into competitive three phase eventers.

Upon graduating from St. Lawrence, Sarah continued in the ski industry with a career in marketing for brands such as Marker, Volkl, Dalbello, and Blizzard-Tecnica. She is also an avid fly-fisher, artist, and outdoor enthusiast, and the trout she catches have become a focus of her studio art. 1991 Boys Lacrosse Team | Undefeated Lakes Region Champions

The 1991 Boys Lacrosse Team holds a special place in Proctor history as one of the few undefeated teams. In an era where three-sport athletes were the norm, this team brought together a unique blend of talents from across Proctor’s athletic programs. It was the team’s collective hunger, combined with exceptional team chemistry and leadership, that fueled their historic run. The 1991 Boys Lacrosse Team’s undefeated season remains a testament to what can happen when diverse athletic talents unite around a shared goal and an unbreakable team bond.

Coaches Pete Southworth and John Schoeller, who brought grit and intelligence honed from soccer and football respectively, helped set a tone of excellence and resilience that carried throughout the season. The camaraderie of the group was legendary, culminating in the now-iconic “Spring Victory Tour” T-shirts that many team members still proudly hold onto today—even if the shirts no longer fit.
