Each spring, Proctor's Boys Varsity Lacrosse program plays through one of the most competitive schedules in New England prep school lacrosse, with a Lakes Region League slate alongside out-of-league games against Phillips Andover, Phillips Exeter, and others. The program is built around individual improvement, team success, and college placement, sustained by players who commit to one another and to getting better each day. Now in his third year as head coach, Brendan Callahan continues to shape that culture alongside this year's three captains – Brode Frink '26, Ryan Roman '26, and Kyle Sweatt '27 – who shared the following reflections.

From the outside, Proctor lacrosse looks like a program building momentum. Does that match what it feels like as players?
Ryan '26: "I can't speak on past seasons, with this being my first, but Coach Cal has done a great job setting the standard for the guys early on, and we work hard as a unit to meet or exceed those expectations."
Kyle '27: "Players on our team have seen the growth of the program from the moment Coach Callahan was named the head coach. Callahan has brought us together on and off the field by holding us to a high standard, whether it is during practice, a game, or in the classroom."

You play in one of the toughest leagues in New England. How do you stay grounded during the difficult schedule?
Brode '26: "You can't think about the whole stretch – it's too much. Just lock in on the next practice, the next play, your matchup. Against teams like Phillips Academy Andover and Phillips Exeter Academy, the key is staying consistent – don't get too high or too low, just stick to your routine. If you treat it as an opportunity instead of pressure, your mindset stays steady."

Ryan ’26: "Just taking it game by game. Watching film, getting a scout, and dialing in on weak spots that reveal themselves."
Kyle '27: "Playing in prep school anywhere is a challenge; you will be facing good teams no matter what. As a program we try to worry about one game at a time and control the controllables. In this day and age with social media and everyone being on it, it is hard not to compare yourself to other teams, but you can't win games online."

Walk me through a specific moment that is representative of this team.
Ryan ’26: "I've gained a whole new family by being part of this team. Whether we're winning, losing, or stuck on a broken-down bus, we're in it together. That says a lot about everyone's commitment to the program."

What do you love most about being part of Proctor Lacrosse?
Brode ’26: "What I love most about being a part of Proctor lacrosse is the brotherhood. The bonds that the guys have on the team, not just as teammates but off field as well, are unlike anything I have experienced in my time here at school. The message is simple: love your brothers, take accountability, and the rest will fall into place."

Ryan ’26: "Coach Cal. That's the easiest question on this survey. Without Cal, we wouldn't approach this game with the level of passion or respect that we do now."
Kyle '27: "The best part of being part of Proctor Lacrosse is the bonds we make during the year. Starting from the fall open turfs to the winter training sessions, a true bond has been formed to last a lifetime."
