We compete because athletics has the potential to teach us lessons in teamwork, collaboration, and selflessness. Every Wednesday and Saturday, we watch our students put on the green, white, and black of Proctor and step onto the athletic fields and trails with such pride in not only our school, but in the work they have put into their teams. As we wrap up the fall season, we recognize those individuals who have been awarded recognition of their contributions to Proctor athletics.
Before we recognize individual students, we share a note of gratitude with all of the adults who help make sure our athletic season goes smoothly. In the Athletic Department, we are fall we are grateful for the leadership of Director of Athletics, Gregor Makechnie '90, and the athletic department team of Assistant Athletic Director Trish Austin '01, Assistant Equipment Manager Mikah Baptiste, Assistant to the Athletic Director Becky Walsh, as well as Head Athletic Trainer Kelly Griffin-Brown and Assistant Athletic Trainer Noah Smith, for supporting all of Proctor's athletes and coaches during this season. Likewise, Ebby Gerry '09 and the entire PBN Crew should be proud of their streaming efforts this fall.
Congratulations to the following award recipients this fall.
MARVIN AWARD
The Marvin Award is given each season to two students who are new to Proctor for their leadership, sportsmanship, and ability.
ADDIE DRUMMOND ‘28 - SOCCER
Addie quickly earned the respect and admiration of her teammates this fall. As the only 9th grader on the varsity soccer team, it would have been easy for her to step back and watch the play around her, but Addie asserted herself as a skilled technician of the game, a supportive and encouraging teammate, and an industrious, hard-nosed worker. As both a midfielder and as an outside back, Addie drew challenging defensive assignments against older and larger players. She never once backed down from the challenge. Addie's affable and congenial demeanor quickly yields to an intense competitor when she steps onto the field. Addie seeks feedback from coaches and possesses a curiosity that leads her to continually learn more about the game. This trait, in conjunction with her joy for being with her teammates and spreading her enthusiasm, makes her an ideal Proctor student-athlete; she is a genuine pleasure to coach.
MATEO CORCORAN ‘25 - SOCCER
New to Proctor this fall, Mateo immediately established himself as leader on the varsity soccer team. His confidence, athletic ability, and knowledge of the game played a major factor in the team’s successes this year -- he was a player-coach on the field each match. Mateo values the hard work of training sessions, and gives his absolute best each day. He is the type of leader who is inclusive, perpetually positive, and kind, making sure that each team member feels valued for their efforts. Mateo is the type of athlete who commands respect through his ability, natural leadership qualities, relentless effort, and hard physical play. Importantly, his respect for the opposing team's players and school is unwavering. He is a model of sportsmanship. As coaches we were thoroughly impressed with Mateo as a student-athlete, and proud to have him represent both the team and Proctor Academy in a Proctor uniform each week. Congratulations, Mateo!
