A faculty member at Proctor may spend the morning teaching classes or Learning Skills tutorials, the afternoon coaching on fields, trails, or rivers, and the evening in an extra help session or on duty in one of our 22 dormitories. Other members of our professional community keep the school running from behind the scenes. They are educators in their own right, and nothing our faculty do with students, in partnership with our families, could happen without them.
The gap between job and life is less defined at Proctor, intentionally so. That asks a great deal of the adults who choose to work here, but it is also what makes the work rewarding. Research continues to show that strong relationships between teachers and students are essential to learning, influencing far more than academics. For adolescents in particular, adults who know them well shape how they experience school and grow within our community. Our students watch how the adults around them interact – working together, solving problems, and laughing – and that is also part of a boarding school education.
As we begin another school year, we are excited to welcome a new group of faculty and staff to Proctor. We are grateful they have chosen to invest their talents here, and we look forward to the contributions they will make to the lives of the students they will come to know in the years ahead. Sarah Carpenter
World Language Department Chair, Girls' JV Field Hockey, Head Coach
Middlebury College, B.A., Columbia University, M.A.
Sarah joins Proctor with 23 years of teaching and coaching experience. She studied Spanish, Geography, and Education at Middlebury College. She also played ice hockey there, captaining the team her senior year and winning the first two women's ice hockey national championships in history. She later added French and Malagasy to her linguistic repertoire while teaching ESL and serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Côte d'Ivoire and Madagascar. After earning her Master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, she taught high school Spanish at her Alma mater, Pingree School, where she also coached varsity ice hockey and the wilderness team. She then spent the past eight years as the World Language Department Head at The Pike School, teaching middle school French and Spanish. She also coached field hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and ice hockey for both the school and her son's youth team.
Inspired by the experiences of her three siblings and nephew—Beth '88, Greg '95, Matt '05, and Patrick Gray '16—Sarah is excited to begin her next chapter at Proctor. She lives in Canaan, NH, with her husband Gus, son Patrick, and their two cats, Luna and Sol. In the summer, she teaches at Cardigan Mountain School Summer Session and enjoys climbing Mt. Cardigan, gardening, beekeeping, and tending to her aquarium.
Noah Clarke

After graduating from Williams College with a Bachelor’s Degree in American Studies, Noah traveled Europe, rode his bicycle from New York to New Orleans, and met his wife, Elena, in a cafe in his native Boston. They soon moved to Spain where he earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Barcelona in International Relations and Development and worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His oldest daughter was born in Barcelona and the youngest in Madrid.
After returning to the United States, Noah spent the next eighteen years teaching at several independent New England schools: Phillips Exeter Academy, Shore Country Day School, and Miss Porter’s School. He also spent two years at The American School in Switzerland (TASIS). This past year, he taught at the American School of Barcelona. Over the course of his career, Noah has taught history, ethics, philosophy, and economics. He also worked as a learning support specialist at Cheshire Academy and coached volleyball, basketball, and golf. Noah loves to spend time with family and friends, drink good coffee, hike, and explore new places.
Steve Gaughan

Steve is a graduate of Wellesley High School and Middlebury College. Steve is joining Proctor's Mathematics Department in the Fall of 2026. Prior to coming to Proctor, Steve spent 10 years working at Dartmouth and 10 years with the US Army Corps of Engineers, coaching youth sports along the way. In his free time, Steve enjoys spending time with wife Emily and their two children, often by the water in the summer and skiing in the mountains in the winter.
Emma Gwyn

Emma studied Environmental Sciences and Geospatial Technologies at the University of Vermont. Since graduating, she has worked in field ecology research as well as outdoor education across the country, most recently in the mountains of Colorado. Emma is excited to be joining Proctor’s faculty as a Mountain Classroom instructor. Her hobbies include canoeing, snowboarding, and crafting.
Tim Healy

Tim joins Proctor from Raleigh, North Carolina, where he spent the last ten years as the Dean of Students at Saint Mary's School, Head Men's Hockey Coach at NC State University, and a key developer of the Calvert Ice Academy. Prior to his time in Raleigh, Tim spent three years as the Director of Student Life at IMG Academy. His roots as an educator began in New England, where he served in various teaching and administrative roles at Worcester Academy and Tilton School, while also coaching hockey and soccer.
Originally from Kingston, New York, Tim attended the Millbrook School before earning his bachelor's degree from Fairfield University and his master's degree from American University. Upon graduating from college, Tim worked for a Concord, New Hampshire-based campaign management firm and later in the New Hampshire State Senate. During this time, he also served as an assistant coach for Proctor's Girls' hockey team for the 2004–2005 season.
When not in a rink, Tim can be found traveling with his wife, Mary-Ellen, their two kids, Meredith '29 and Bridget '31. They have two dogs, Dominic and Pepper.
Helena Iaquinta
Director of Equity and Belonging, Johnson House Dorm Affiliate

Helena is a Nashua, New Hampshire native who studied History, Psychology, and Education at the College of Wooster before earning her Master of Science in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University. She brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education, working across academic and student affairs to support students and build strong, connected communities. Helena is especially passionate about civil discourse, restorative practices, and creating spaces where people can learn from one another with curiosity, empathy, and respect. As a certified restorative practices facilitator, she believes in the power of listening, honest conversation, and understanding one another’s stories. Helena has also coached high school and collegiate lacrosse, helping student-athletes develop confidence, resilience, leadership, and teamwork. Outside of work, she enjoys playing rugby, birding, reading, and exploring the outdoors with her partner and two children.
Amy Livermore

Originally from Massachusetts, Amy earned her B.A. in Psychology from Wheaton College, where she was also a member of the women's lacrosse team. Her passion for working with children began during college through roles at summer camps and local schools, inspiring a career dedicated to helping students grow, build confidence, and discover their strengths along the way.
Amy began her professional career in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), providing individualized therapy to young children in home and community-based settings. She later taught mathematics at Brewster Academy from 2020 to 2023, where she developed a deep appreciation for fostering meaningful relationships with students and contributing to a vibrant school community. Most recently, Amy lived in Boulder, Colorado, where she continued her work in education by supporting students in dynamic classroom environments while providing data-informed interventions and individualized support for learners with diverse needs. She is passionate about creating inclusive, engaging learning experiences that help every student build confidence and reach their potential.
Outside of the classroom, Amy enjoys spending time outdoors and exploring new hiking trails with her dog, Boomer. She is excited to become part of the Proctor community and discover all that the area has to offer.
Cope Makechnie-Hardy
History Department, Boys' JV2 Soccer
Brigham Young University, B.A., University of Cambridge, M.Phil.
Cope grew up in Andover and is a Proctor graduate. She earned a BA in History at Brigham Young University and an MPhil in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic Studies at the University of Cambridge. She has lectured at Brigham Young University and Plymouth State University and worked as an archivist and librarian at the New Hampshire Historical Society.
Caleb O’Connor-Genereaux

Born from the fields, trees, and streams of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom (and two lovely human parents), Caleb has spent his life engaging with the natural world. Fourteen years as a wilderness skills specialist, a BS in Natural Resources at UVM, and countless personal trips exploring the wilds of the world have set Caleb up to return, like a boomerang, to Proctor's Mountain Classroom. Caleb has a love for crafts and has begun teaching workshops in sewing, basketry, and naturalist skills through Roots School in Vermont. He has also guest lectured in the anthropology department at UVM and taught survival skills basics at Dartmouth. Between Caleb's numerous teaching and speaking engagements, you can find him pruning the trees in his orchard, working on a basket, or tanning a hide.
Tori Simek
Learning Skills Department
Vanderbilt University, B.S., University of Maryland, M.B.A. and M.S., University of Connecticut, M.A.
After spending more than two decades connected to the New London area, Tori is delighted to return to the region and join the Proctor community as a Learning Skills Specialist. Tori attended Vanderbilt University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Human and Organizational Development. She then went on to earn an MS in Marketing and an MBA from the University of Maryland.
Tori’s professional journey has included roles in corporate America as well as entrepreneurship, including owning and operating a gelato shop in Hanover, New Hampshire. During that time, she discovered a passion for helping students learn and grow, which inspired her to pursue a Master of Arts in Education Psychology and certification in Special Education at the University of Connecticut.
Prior to joining the Proctor community, Tori worked as a special education teacher in Farmington, CT with a focus on language-based learning. Tori is the mother of four children – Sadie, Daniel, James, and Matthew ‘29. In her free time, she enjoys exploring new places and cultures, caring for rescued animals, maintaining freshwater aquariums, and spending time in nature.
