Proctor Athletics: Spring Award Recipients

Scott Allenby

The spring athletic season always seems to pass in a blink of an eye. While the season starts with snow-covered fields and practice rotations through the field house, the final weeks are highlighted by blue skis, green grass, and, of course, pesky black flies.

Sports and the communities they build sit at the heart of school communities. They bring students from different backgrounds together in pursuit of a shared cause. They pull leadership qualities out of unsuspecting students who are just starting to find their place in this world. Sports teach us how to overcome adversity and to celebrate the humanity in our opposition. We are incredibly proud of the journeys our students have been on over the past two months, and celebrate their accomplishments alongside them. A huge thank you to our dedicated coaches, supportive parents and families, and the truly remarkable athletic department who ensures each of our game days (which seem to be every single day in the spring) run without a hitch.

Today we recognize Spring Athletic Award Recipients. Each of these individuals stood out on their teams for their leadership, ability, selflessness, or commitment to making those around them better.

MARVIN AWARD:

Each season, coaches nominate two students for the Marvin Award; an award given to a student who is new to Proctor and has made a considerable impact on his or her team through leadership, ability, and a positive attitude.

Theo Mehlman '25 - Lacrosse

Theo's impact on the lacrosse team was immediately evident. His work ethic, mental and physical toughness, and lacrosse IQ have made him a formidable matchup for opposing teams and earned him the admiration of his peers, coaches, and opponents. Often matched up against the opponent's top athletes, Theo is the only defenseman to record a caused turnover in every contest this season - a tremendous accomplishment. However, Theo's leadership and character truly set him apart. While he is certainly capable of delivering speeches and guidance to his teammates, it is his actions - his willingness to put in extra work after practice, his positive attitude, his sportsmanship, and his determination in the face of adversity, that set an example for his teammates daily. We are thrilled Theo will be a member of the lacrosse team for two more years.

Madi Zahn '25 - Lacrosse

Madi’s leadership is evident on and off the field. She is an attacker but plays a key role all over the field. Her ability to snag draw controls, cut back and help on transitions, and both assist and score goals makes her a force that opposing teams consistently struggle to defend. She has amassed over 50 points this season and leads the team in this category. Madi’s contributions go far beyond the stat sheet. Perhaps even more impressive is her ability to unite her teammates all while challenging them to be the best version of themselves. Whether she is singing in the locker room, telling a story, or drinking beet juice, she never fails to make her teammates laugh. The connection she has built with each of them is apparent on the field. They respect her and value the feedback she gives them. Madi’s skill, poise, positive attitude and selflessness were key to our success this season.
