Proctor Athletics: Sports Camp 2023

Scott Allenby

While Wilderness Orientation takes most of the spotlight this week, Proctor's annual preseason Sports Camp welcomes fall athletic teams for a four day, intensive pre-season camp. With the goal of knocking off the summer's rust, establishing a baseline of fitness, team bonding, and installing offensive and defensive concepts, Sports Camp is a high school athlete's dream come true.

This year’s Sports Camp has been dominated by record-high temperatures that have prevented afternoon sessions from taking place. Nonetheless, coaches, athletes, and our amazing Athletic Trainers Kelly Griffin-Brown and Chris Jones ‘04 have made the best of the week.

Proctor's crew team has five athletes working hard for coaches Geoff and Beth Sahs on Lake Sunapee this week. While most teams have struggled with the warm temperatures, the crew team is loving the flat water, warm air, and beautiful lake for their training sessions! Follow our Crew Team on Instagram HERE

Proctor's football program is coming off its first New England Championship in program history, carrying significant momentum into the 2023 campaign. A mix of veteran leadership and new faces among the 33 preseason camp attendees have Coach Ben Rulli and his staff excited about the season ahead. Their first scrimmage will take place next Thursday when Nobles & Greenough comes to campus. Follow Proctor Football on Instagram HERE for more updates.

Proctor's field hockey team graduated a talented group of seniors in the Class of 2023, but looks to be back in the mix of the Lakes Region this fall as they welcome 21 players to camp this week. Coaches Kate '01 and Trish '01 Austin love the energy of the group, and are focusing on building a foundation of trust and teamwork as they head into their annual Proctor Jamboree on Saturday against Lakes Region foes. Proctor’s boys soccer team has more than a dozen new faces among the 31 players at preseason camp this year, including some talented veterans joining the club. A group of eleven equally talented freshmen have elevated play for Coach Ian Hamlet as he and his staff prepare for another hard fought Lakes Region schedule ahead. The boys head to Groton School on Saturday for their first scrimmage of the season.

Proctor's girls soccer program has had back to back years of graduating more than ten players off its roster, but with a core of returning talent, Coach Kyle Connolly and Assistant Coach Ellie Sperry are excited about the depth and talent within the 27 girls at preseason camp this week. The team will head to Beaver Country Day for a scrimmage on Saturday to see how their early season work will hold up against an outside opponent. Follow Proctor Girls Soccer on Instagram HERE

Diving into triple sessions as a cross country runner can be a challenge, but coaches Sarah Daney and Erik Cole-Johnson are building core strength, flexibility, agility, and endurance this week with a group of nine dedicated cross country runners. The team will head to the Lilyan Wright 10K in Goshen, NH on Saturday morning for a fun race to kick off the season.

Proctor's mountain biking team continues their annual tradition of heading to Vermont to ride some of the nation’s best mountain biking trails during preseason camp. A deep, talented, and most of all fun, group of 18 riders are taking part in this year’s camp and will undoubtedly be a part of an exciting season for the Hornets in the Northeast Mountain Biking League this fall.
