Hours remain until we can officially begin celebrating the Class of 2024 with Senior Dinner and Senior Recognition Night. Commencement will follow Saturday morning, and then campus will be empty. As our underclass students wrap up classes and depart campus, and our seniors prepare for Senior Cruise tonight, we reflect on the past week of culminating projects and end of year rituals.
Over the past decade, Proctor has made a conscious effort to shift end of year assessments to more public displays of student work through Innovation Night, open presentations in classes, and other exhibits. This approach to culminating assessments allows students to have a larger audience to showcase their thinking, creativity, and growth over the course of the year.
On Tuesday evening, culminating projects in Economics, AP Environmental Science, Athletes in Literature, College Physics and Calculus, and Math III were on display in the Farrell Field House, providing an opportunity for students to share their learning with the community.
After our final assembly of the year where we honored departing Head of School Brian Thomas and shared the dedication of the 2024 Green Lantern Yearbook to Peter Southworth, we lined the walkway to the Wilkins Meeting House and thanked all of the departing faculty and staff for their years of service! A special shoutout to retiring faculty and staff members Garry George (41 years of service), Peter Southworth (39 years of service), Patty Pond (37 years of service), Keith Barrett ‘80 (33 years of service), Greg Allen (26 years of service), and Lisa Partridge (5 years of service)!
On Wednesday afternoon, the Class of 2024 shared their Senior Projects with the community in the Farrell Field House. With more than 70 projects on display, the variety of projects and enthusiasm of our graduating seniors was stunning. Ranging from taking flight lessons to earning a real estate license to cooking explorations to personal fitness journeys and backpacking adventures, the vast majority of our seniors took full advantage of this final opportunity to engage in a personal pursuit as part of their Proctor experience.
With 94 students, the Class of 2024 has 94 unique stories to tell about how Proctor shaped their lives. For a class that began their Proctor experience mid-pandemic with uncertainty as the only constant, one thing was clear as they shared their projects: this group is incredibly, justifiably proud of the work they have done and the growth they have experienced over the last four years. We are just as proud. On to commencement weekend!
