Proctor Athletics: Winter 2025 Awards

Scott Allenby

As the winter season concludes, we reflect on the past three months and the tireless efforts of coaches, athletic trainers, athletic staff, ski area crew, hockey rink staff, and students. The winter athletic season requires a remarkable amount of energy and commitment, and we are so thankful for all those who made this winter successful.

Through all of the ups and downs of the season, we kept our eyes on the lessons taught and relationships developed through sport. Thank you to everyone that made the winter season happen, and to the staff at the Proctor Broadcasting Network for working tirelessly to provide livestreams of all home athletic contests. During end of season gatherings, teams recognized individual award recipients. Congratulations to the following award winners.

Marvin Award 2025

Marvin Award Winners

The Marvin Award is given each season to two students who are new to Proctor for their leadership, sportsmanship, and ability. This winter's Marvin Award recipients are Abby Melnick '27 (Nordic) and Ridge Nelson '28 (Eastern Skiing). Below are words shared by their coaches.

Abby Melnick '27 - Nordic

Anyone who knows Abby knows what a gift it is to share her presence, and Nordic has been extremely fortunate to be infused with her spirit, motivation, attitude, teamwork, and support of others. New to Nordic skiing this year, Abby immediately committed to becoming the best she could, including roller skiing this fall. Learning to ski on pavement rather than snow is a tough business, and Abby earned her share of bruises and road rash, yet never showed anything but a super positive, energetic spirit. Abby is not only upbeat at practice and races, but extremely focused both when it comes to getting fit and developing technique. She is always anxious to learn and improve. As a result, Abby was a scoring member of our girls’ team in our tie with Holderness for first place in the Lakes Region. This was an achievement we could not have realized without Abby and her intense effort. Even as a younger member of the team, Abby has a way of being a friend and support - and even inspiration - to everyone on the team. Abby is one of four team members who volunteer after practice, under the lights and in the cold, to coach the younger skiers of the Andover Outing Club, then hike back up to the main campus. In March, she will travel with the team to Norway and compete in the 54-kilometer Birkebeiner Marathon as a first-year skier! We are thankful to Abby, and look forward to her continued growth, success, and contributions. in the years to come.

Ridge Nelson '28 – Eastern Alpine Skiing

Ridge’s positive impact on the Eastern skiing U16 team cannot be overstated. He elevates the level of competition and effort within the group, and his lead-by-example style has pushed his peers to give their best every day on the hill. Ridge takes it upon himself to train with intensity and focus each day. Slowing down is not an option for Ridge. His intensity has seeped into the entire U16 boys’ team and elevated the team's performance this winter, including a full team sweep of the podium. His determination has made him the competitive engine of the U16 squad, and despite being the youngest member he is respected by all members of the team for his skiing and his grit. Ridge’s relentless focus and athletic ability have led him to six podium finishes this season. He currently sits atop the Macomber Cup ranking as a first-year athlete -- an impressive feat. Not only is he ranked as the top U16 in New Hampshire, but he is ranked as the top 2010 by points in the entire Eastern Region in Slalom and Giant Slalom. Also impressive is that he is ranked 8th nationally in his age group in both Slalom and Giant Slalom.
