The Competition Gets Tougher, But So Do We
We traveled to New Hampton School this afternoon where a combative NHS squad, as well as a cold wind across the courts, did little to stop the Proctor GJVT team. 4 singles and 2 doubles victories gave us a 6-3 win.
In singles, #1 Nikki (8-2), #2 Carly (8-2), #3 Amy (8-5), and #4 Carol (8-1) all quickly locked down wins.
Both Carly and Nikki smartly overpowered opponents that evenly matched them, winning the points that matter. Amy and Carol both have a matter of fact style that works in their favor. #5 Mackenzie (6-8) and #6 Lila (5-8) both played well and showed great improvement in long competitive matches, falling just short at the end.
In doubles, all three of our teams struggled early but found their groove as play moved along. #1 Nikki and Torie won 8-4, and #3 Julia and Birgit won 8-5. Emily and Kara found themselves at an early deficit and continued to fight back, but ended with a 6-8 loss.
Ayla was a bit under the weather but still managed to knock off her opponent in an exhibition match 8-1.
We travel to KUA on Saturday - it's prom weekend so we hope to put aside the drama of hair and nails for a couple of hours and keep our winning streak alive.
