Hornets Suffer Second Straight Loss

Proctor suffered their second straight loss in 1-0 fashion. On a chilly Fall Family Weekend Friday late afternoon, Kimball Union came to town ready and poised for a showdown of two Lakes Region teams. The opening frame was a tight affair that saw both teams push forward and hold good possession through midfield. The defenses held strong and limited opportunities effectively as the game remain knotted at the half.

Nine minutes into the second half, Kimball Union struck on a clever play from their striker who turned quickly and fired off a quick shot which found the back of the net. The goal would prove to be the difference, but did not tell the story of the game. Proctor pushed and pushed, dominating much of the play throughout the second half. Tough play on the wings created opportunities for the Hornets as the knocked on the door again and again but couldn't put the ball home.

It raises the perennial question of how a team should measure success. The outward answer is obvious; the team record matters. But with the way the Hornets controlled the tempo of play on Friday, it is hard to look at the game as anything but bittersweet. The girls played 80 minutes of tough - and beautiful - soccer. They moved the ball around the field, took defenders on, made great saves, and asked questions of a side that has long been a powerhouse in the Lakes Region.

As we look ahead to the end of the season with 5 games remaining, we see a challenging road. But that is why we play the game and why we have teammates. After a weekend of well-deserved rest, the girls will take back to the field in preparation for a big game against Berwick Academy.
