Exciting Draw in Andover

Whenever the Hornets and Wildcats face off it is a good one. This match up would prove no different as both teams were primed to head into the final week of the season on a strong note. The early sunset meant that the turf would be lit up by the bright lights for this Lakes Region showdown.

With the kickoff, the Hornets applied heavy pressure to the Wildcats and set an early tone of heavy offensive pressure. Only five minutes into the contest, Annabelle Graziano ('22) beat her defender to the end line and played a pin point square ball onto Ang Arcidi's ('22) right foot which she converted. A dream start for the Hornets. The Wildcats did not go away however. Sustained pressure ultimately resulted in an opportunity as the ball squirted through the the far post where the Wildcat winger passed it home in the 31st minute. The 1-1 draw would take the teams into half time.

The second half saw the Hornets assert their midfield dominance as they took over control of the ball and moved it well. The possession generated many dangerous looking attacks but the final pass wasn't there on the day. Opportunity after opportunity came and went for the Hornets as they knocked on the door but couldn't quite find the opening they hoped for. On the back end, the Hornets did very well to keep a dangerous Wildcat counter attack in check as they fed through balls to their striker with each opportunity. The final whistle saw the score deadlocked at 1-1. Another even scoreline between these two Lakes Region rivals.

The Hornets put every bit of their hearts out on the field. When we look back over this season we will ask ourselves what defined this senior-laden team. While the end is not yet here, the common theme of heart can be seen in game after game. Not only do these players love the game but they love each other and when you get deep into the season and find yourself looking at the final 160 minutes, that heart and love is what you need to fuel you. Two highly anticipated matches are ahead of us. That is all that we are guaranteed and you better believe we will fight with every bit of heart that we have for those matches.
