Competitive Kayaking is Back!
After a seven year hiatus, competitive spring kayaking is back at Proctor under the leadership of Corby Leith ‘92 and Gordon Bassett ‘96. Continuing in the tradition of legendary kayaking coach Bert Hinkley who established the program more than 30 years ago, Leith and Bassett have a small group of kayakers who have attacked the frigid spring waters of New Hampshire with considerable resolve.
In their first two races, Proctor paddlers swept the podium in the K1 Junior class earning the following results:
Webster, NH: Blackwater Whitewater Slalom: K1 Junior (One person kayak under 18) 1st Place: Jimmy Connacher 2nd Place: Carter Mosner
Bangor, ME: Kenduskeag Whitewater Slalom: K1 Junior (One person kayak under 18) 1st Place: Cooper Savage 2nd Place: Cyrus Davis 3rd Place: Carter Mosner
The team’s next race is on the Housatonic River in West Cornwall, Connecticut at the Covered Bridge Whitewater Slalom on Sunday May 18. Best of luck to the team in this event and enjoy the video footage of the Kenduskeag Whitewater Slalom below!
