Proctor Hosts Lakes Region Race In A Winter Wonderland!

Blessed with 4 or 5 inches of new snow, Proctor welcomed eight teams to the Blackwater Valley and the Proctor Ski Area, groomed to perfection.  Skiing classic technique in the woods and out briefly onto a field, the course began with a mass start before three loops for a total of 4 KM.  The girls began first and due to some illness, co-captain Katie Ball (2nd place) and Sarah Ferdinand were the only two girls wearing the Proctor snowflake.  Both worked hard and skiied to great results & big smiles.  Co-captain Nathaniel Perkins (4th place) led the boys squad, followed by Jaime Migoya, Matt Bent, Asher Whittemore, Nick Ho, Rio Hashimoto, Sean Slick, Daniel Gunther, Andre Chiang, Sam Fulton, & Cole Schwabacher.  The photos attest to their hard work and focus for about 20 minutes of racing.  The rest of the story is improved technique for a team made up of many beginners, a better understanding of fitness and staying healthy throiugh the winter, and the power of cheering. Many thanks to our supporters - faculty & staff who volunteered to help score & time and Garry George's incredible ski hill crew.  Special thanks (it's always about the food!) go to Jen Bent (and other parents) who helped make a delicious lasagna (& cupcake) team dinner possible after the race.  Proctor parent Rich Tilton generously shares his photos for us to enjoy.  Next Wednesday, there is a chance that Dublin School will host their race back at the Proctor ski area - stay tuned.
