Hornets Almost Sting Hilltoppers
Proctor's boys' varsity basketball team traveled to Worcester Academy for a NEPSAC AA match-up against one of the top teams in the league. In an up and down game, Proctor played to their strength and ran the court in transition, while forcing Worcester into outside shots. Those shots for the home team didn't fall in the first half, as the Hornets built an 11 point lead (40-29) with 2:00 to play in the period before Worcester went on an 10-2 run in the closing seconds to cut the deficit to 42-39 at the break. The second half saw more up and down action as the two teams saw a 15 point swing from Proctor leading 59-51, to Worcester leading 76-69 with 6:00 to play. The Hornets once again battled back behind strong outside shooting from Mykel Derring '19 (28 points, 5 threes), Bol Akot '20 (21 points, 9 assists), and Terrell Brown '19 (19 points, 3 threes) to take an 89-88 lead with just under 2:00 in the game. Missed foul shots by the Hornets and a couple untimely turnovers left the visitors just short of a big upset win. The boys will regroup quickly as they host NEPSAC AAA New Hampton School at 6:00 PM Friday night.
